Top Reddit comments about PlayStation 3 Controllers:

The Xbox controller and my huge Friend List are the two features of that system that keep me coming back. I love the UI as well, but it's slow as hell since it wasn't originally designed for it.

That being said, if I can find a 360 style controller for the PS3/PS4 I'd really appreciate it. Anyone know where I can find one?

[EDIT] I found one here on Amazon for $13. Does anyone have any experience with this one?

u/the5souls · 173 pointsr/oculus

Costs for the starting, complete virtual reality package that includes the headset, audio, 2 motion controllers, and the platform:

(Complete here means full headset tracking, motion controllers for hand tracking, and some sort of headphone solution for audio)

|Oculus Rift | HTC Vive | Playstation VR
---|---|---|---
Platform | $850 PC | $850 PC | $350 PS4
Headset | $600 | $800 | $400
Controllers | $??? | $0 | $60 ($30x2)
Tracking | $0 | $0 | $45
Audio | $0 | $0 | $0
Total | $1450+++ | $1650+ | $875+

* For HTC Vive and PSVR earbud alternatives, headphones have a lot of price variation. Depending on the brands you get, generally the more you pay for your audio, the better your virtual reality audio experience will be. My virtual reality headphone-type (open, closed, in-ear, etc.) breakdown can be found here. I also highly recommend looking at Head-Fi's price recommendation list for good ideas on headphones to consider purchasing.

Quick, cheap PC with minimum Rift/Vive specifications that includes everything as if you're starting from absolutely nothing.

CPU | Intel Core i5-4590 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor | $189.99

Keyboard | Fellowes 9892901 Wired Standard Keyboard | $5.37
Mouse | V7 M30P20-7N Wired Optical Mouse | $4.71
| Total | $863.10

--------------------

You can cut costs further by removing keyboard, mouse, monitor, and perhaps finding a way to get a discount on the operating system. You can also change the case, or the storage for something cheaper. You may be able to lower the power supply, but I don't recommend it. If you remove the OS, monitor, keyboard, and mouse, you can cut about $160 off.

There are a few free VR games on the PSN store I believe.
https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-ca/free-on-ps-vr/cid=STORE-MSF77008-PSVRFREEG

You need PS Move controllers to go with the PS VR. Don't think they come with them. Here's an example: https://www.amazon.ca/PS3-Motion-Controller-Standard-Edition/dp/B002I0J51U

You can get Little Big Planet online from the PSN store, and in pretty much any gaming store. It's kinda old, so im sure you can find used copies at say a EBGames easily.

Your new PS4 may have also come with a PS+ trial in the box. Start with that to see if you'd like to pick up a year membership. PS+ gives you 6 free games each month (2 PS4, 2 PS3, 2 Vita games), but you need to keep your PS+ membership to play them. If you stop the membership, you do not loose the games, you just cant play them until you re-subscribe. You also get extra sale prices on games.

Hi, I'm disabled as well (spastic CP) and while my disability isn't as severe as yours, I have had to deal with some of the same concerns you have over the course of my XIV career. While I can't provide advice pertaining to keyboard usage I might be able to point you in the direction of some alternative hardware setups that would make playing the game easier.

First I have a few questions about your particular case. Is your wrist movement limited to no flexion of the wrist, or can you also not flex your fingers? Can you "poke" with your left index finger AND your right index finger, or just the left? How are your thumbs: can you wiggle them back and forth at all?

Reason I'm asking is that if you can push a button with BOTH index fingers, and you can slightly move your thumbs, you can actually use a controller, with just those four fingers. You will have to tape it to your other fingers especially if you have no grip strength, or put it onto a surface. (If your problem is that you have no way to hold the controller and you need to rest it on a surface, look into getting the PC version of the game and an "aftermarket" gamepad such as the Logitech F310! or the Pro EX! With the PC version you can use drivers and input mappers to find the controller that works best for you, but if you can't hold it, I recommend the PRO EX--specifically because it has button style unexposed back triggers that are far less likely to fire if you have to rest it somewhere to use it.

Without modification, the back triggers are essential for playing XIV with a gamepad, and there is an option to make it so that your hotbars toggle, eliminating the need to hold them down to use your abilities. This option alone has made a night and day difference in my own ability to play the game. (Note: I used the PRO EX personally on the PS3 for several years, and it works on PC with an input mapper such as DS4Windows. I don't own a PS4 but it ought to work fine.)

You say you use a touchpad to click. Where is it located? What hand do you use for it? I have no experience with them, but you might benefit from something like a trackball, especially one with added buttons. Still, my own admittedly personal bias says that if you can find a way to make a gamepad work for you, it will open up the most amount of commands for your limited dexterity. Movement is also easiest on a gamepad because of the analog sticks, and it's crucial in higher end content just because of the sheer amount of AoE and mechanics, as others have said. Numlock/autorun might work but could get clumsy after a while--I say this as someone who's in your exact same boat as far as the left hand and the keyboard goes, and even with the mouse it was hard for me to WASD out of fire. I looked but can't find a click-to-move option, so there might not be one.

Classwise I would recommend starting with PLD for tank. Tanks in this game have the simplest rotations compared to DPS, and the slower combat speed means that you can focus more on holding threat and positioning the boss in leveling content. Until raid level fights, they also generally have the least amount of mechanics to react to. I main a tank for this reason.

If you want to play a DPS I suggest either of the current casters (BLM or SMN) depending on if you like being relatively immobile with long cast times, or WoW lock style DoTs, respectively.

I also would like to ask what kinds of specific problems/hurdles you are running into with the game--what kinds of functions are most difficult right now? There might be a way to streamline them via game options.

Ordinarily I would offer more class advice, but since everything is changing in three weeks I would suggest you to continue getting acquainted with the systems and try out different hardware systems, if possible.

Just use a controller in the left hand and a mouse in the right.

Edit : https://www.amazon.com/Playstation-Move-Navigation-Controller/dp/B002I0K6X6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481780592&sr=8-1&keywords=Playstation+Nav+controller

This is what I use in my left hand, and a Logitech G602 in my right.

Fine movement controller; Precision aiming.

This is my parts list from Amazon, I just googled Retro Pi installation guide and used one of the top results;

CanaKit Raspberry Pi 3

Samsung 32GB EVO (storage is entirely based on your budget and how much space you think you will need)

Raspberry Pi Case (lots of options)

Wired Controller (lots of options)

Card Reader (If your PC doesn't have one already)

Add in an HDMI cable if you don't have an extra laying around.

u/HandHeldPlague · 22 pointsr/PSVR

Sony just needs to update this controller by giving it motion tracking.

u/Blue2501 · 17 pointsr/PS3

Demon's Souls is pretty cool if you're into the Dark Souls thing. I wanna recommend Vanquish, but I've heard that the 360 release is better. I'd highly recommend you get a remote. With the remote, a PS3 makes a damn fine Blu-Ray player with all the usual streaming services too. Also, the PS3 supports HDMI-CEC so if your TV also supports it, you can turn the TV on with the PS3, turn the PS3 off with the TV, use some of your TV's remote functions on the PS3, etc.

u/Odusei · 17 pointsr/gaming

Problem solved.

u/Grimcicle · 16 pointsr/gaming

You are correct.

u/jupiterkansas · 13 pointsr/PS3

Yes, but you'll also want to get the media remote to have better control over playback.

u/themcs · 13 pointsr/gaming

This would be better, and there are drivers for it.

u/[deleted] · 12 pointsr/buildapc

Lets not forget about the Tournament Edition arcade sticks which are arguably the best stock sticks you can buy for a console, which are also produced by Mad Catz. They're sturdy, built with Sanwa parts (same as the Japanese Street Fighter 4 cabinets), and the dual mod a lot of serious fighting game players want - which allows it to work on both 360 and PS3 - is a cinch to install in the 360 TEs.

u/olbaze · 12 pointsr/fightsticks

It being a Razer product in no way justifies the price. At best, it explains it, as Razer is infamous for selling overpriced, crap products. Even this stick is literally a rip-off of the Mad Catz fightpad, except it's even less usable (no analog stick) and somehow costs like 4 times as much. Even the very similar Hori Fighting Commander is a third of the price.

u/trappedmouse · 11 pointsr/pics

Actually, the PS3 has a bluray remote that uses bluetooth. It uses 2AAs and in my experience lasts for months.

u/GossamerSolid · 11 pointsr/Rockband

$300 USD for a used ION kit? I'd just get an Alesis Nitro Kit instead.

You'll want the MPA if you do go that route as well as a small MIDI to MIDI cable.

https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Rock-Band-MIDI-PRO-3/dp/B0042B3EOM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1549367856&sr=8-3&keywords=Midi+pro+adapter+ps4

u/SonOfSpades · 9 pointsr/gaming

I hate the PS3 controller because it causes my hands to cramp after an hour or so of playing. Personally i love the 360 controller, and i use it for playing on my PC. So i tried to buy a third party PS3 controller, and they all more or less are junk. Both me and my roomate spent around a month trying various controllers. Most of the third party PS3-360 controllers are junk, unfortunately.

http://www.amazon.com/computers-accessories/dp/B007SO06O6

Tried it, unfortunately it causes a rather noticeable and annoying input delay that would randomly happen. I remember playing Killzone 3 and there were times where my view would keep moving for a bit, after letting off the stick.

A similar problem occurred with Red Dead Redemption, where during the duels my targeting reticule would keep moving even after i let off the stick for less than half a second (it sounds like not much, but when you need some level of precision its extremely frusturating).

http://www.amazon.com/Turbo-BATTLE-Controller-Adapter-Playstation-3/dp/B006TSD9SM

Similar problems to the adapter above.

http://www.amazon.com/Pro-EX-Controller-PS3-Playstation-3/dp/B003VWXV50

A massive dead zone in the analog sticks along with a DPAD that was completely unresponsive.

http://www.amazon.com/Pro-Elite-Wireless-Controller-Playstation-3/dp/B003V4AK8E

There is a massive dead zone in the analog sticks, and feels extremely cheap. The wireless also seems to drop out at random. However it is the only 3rd party PS3 controller with 360 layout that has SIXAXIS.

http://www.amazon.com/Afterglow-AP-1-Controller-PS3-Playstation-3/dp/B003IU01LC

Terrible, terrible controller. The analog sticks are so awful i just returned it right away.

http://www.amazon.com/POWER-FUS1ON-Tournament-Controller-PlayStation-3/dp/B0096KF7O4

I got to try this controller after it was lent to me by a friend. It worked worked really well, and i played through Killzone 2, and RDR without any issues. Unfortunately it is expensive and lacks SIXAXIS.

MadCatz also makes a MLG Controller for PS3, i tried it a couple of months ago. Overall i thought it was pretty great. But i have never seen it for sale in Canada.

Saitek also made a controller Cyborg V3 (that i can't find on amazon), that lets you flip the position of the analog sticks, but i can't find it anymore and they oddly seem to have completely switched to flight sim sticks.

u/project23 · 8 pointsr/gaming

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-PlayStation-3-Blu-ray-Disc-Remote/dp/B000M17AVO

This remote makes the PS3 really feel like a true home theater component. My wife uses Netflix on the PS3 every day but has never picked up the sixaxis controller. The DB/playstation remote sits next to the TV remote and looks right at home.

As for the complaints from ant2206 I have never experienced any of his issues and honestly I have NEVER owned a remote that had 'flush' buttons.

u/Comedian70 · 8 pointsr/PS3

Pick up one of these: http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Move-Sharp-Shooter-3/dp/B002I0K622 (or two, if you have a friend to play with and another move controller)

Get this PARTICULAR gun attachment, not one of the pistols. Easier reloading and much more comfortable. Trust me.

And a copy of this: http://www.amazon.com/House-Dead-OVERKILL-Extended-Cut-Playstation/dp/B0053B7ICO/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1408458137&sr=1-1&keywords=house+of+the+dead+overkill+ps3

Best use of the Move to date.

u/No1s_On_Meth · 8 pointsr/Rockband
u/RichardHuman · 7 pointsr/gaming

Amazon has similar deals (a little higher, unfortunately, but I bet you'd save money on the gas.)

u/grumbel · 7 pointsr/oculus

A PS Move has neither sticks nor Dpad. The Nav Controller has a stick and a Dpad, but it lacks positional tracking, so it's pretty useless for VR.

u/deathmonkeyz · 7 pointsr/oculus

Not sure how it still being micro mini usb is that relevant in all honesty, it's just a connection type used for charging/pairing (and a charging dock is like $20).

Best Buy's pricing for those is pretty wacky imo anyway, you can get a single controller on Amazon for $26.

u/emotive15 · 7 pointsr/teslamotors

I use this one without any issue.

www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XB6FRPR/

u/Synteka · 6 pointsr/PSVR

They did have a move controller with a thumbstick for PS3 but it didn't have tracking.

it would be nice for them to integrate the navigation controller into the move with a better battery life for a later product.

u/jimbonics · 6 pointsr/Rockband

Let's hope you're on PS4. XB1 uses are left in the wind atm.

If so, pick up a MIDI Pro Adapter NOW. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0042B3EOM/

The Alesis Nitro kit is a very nice entry-level ekit for 300. Works like a champ on both consoles.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0187KO8X4

Only other thing you'd need is a MIDI cable.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000068NTU

This enhances your rock band experience 1000%

u/CheesecakeMilitia · 6 pointsr/Rockband

Any ekit with a midi-out port on the brain will work with the Midi Pro Adapter. The hitch is that many of the more inexpensive ekits have "midi-via-usb" ports that require a program running on a computer to convert the ekit's output to an input the Midi Pro Adapter can accept. If your midi-out port looks like this, you're good.

Once you have an ekit plugged into the MPA, it's as simple as setting the corresponding midi notes for a Rock Band config.

Also, if you're on Xbox One, you need the ridiculously expensive out-of-print legacy wired controller adapter to play with RB4. PS4 doesn't have this issue and can use the PS3 MPA just fine.

u/BaddDadd2010 · 6 pointsr/Rockband

> will it recognise the difference between toms snare and kick?

Yes.

Your best bet is to get the Roll Limitless Adapter, an adapter made by a Rock Bad player who posts here. That's a little cheaper than the Official MIDI Pro Adapter, works better, and works whether your E-kit has standard MIDI or USB MIDI.

u/Formerly_Guava · 6 pointsr/teslamotors

I'm using this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XB6FRPR

It works fine with all of the games and makes Beach Buggy 2 a lot easier and more fun.

u/sidsixseven · 5 pointsr/OverwatchUniversity

I don't know if this is of interest to you, but I play on PC with Mouse + PS3 Move Navigation controller. There are a couple of ways to get the controller to work but the easiest is to simply buy the Mayflash PS3 to USB adapter.

The Move controller is one handed, so you hold it in your off hand that would normally be placed on the WASD keys. For me, it's mainly a comfort thing.

u/graesen · 5 pointsr/PSVR

The PS3 had a PS Move Navigation controller. I have one. I kept my Move controllers when I hears they were compatible with the PS4. I didn't know how I'd use them, but thought there was a reason. Then 1 day, PSVR was announced and released. The move controllers were compatible, but I've yet to see an example or compatibility for the Navigation controller with the PSVR... Just saying...

u/Accipehoc · 5 pointsr/PS3

Well, Newegg has em for $40 and the last time I checked, Best buy had a bundle of GoW/Uncharted 1+2 with a controller.

Edit: Just got an e-mail from Amazon so here's some third-party controller deals.

Splitfish Dual SFX Evolution Wireless Controller for just $23. I own one and it works pretty good, no dead zones but the button layouts feels awkward. Rapidfire was fun to use, only tried it on Mass Effect 3 though. It feels like a monster when you hold it btw. Here's the video review of it.

HKS Racing Controller for $36.09. This is strictly for racing games and I've never really tried it. HKS Racing Controller Review.

PS3 Eagle Eye Mouse and Keyboard Converter which is $49.88. I know you don't want to shell out too much money but if you want to play the PS3 with a keyboard + mouse, then here ya go. You can also check out the Tactical Assault Commander 3 but I wouldn't recommend it. Eagle Eye PS3 Review. Btw, if you do get the Eagle Eye, expect playing it like this. A better demonstration of Eagle Eye.

Play n Type Wireless Controller with Keypad for $38.03. I seriously don't like this controller, it looks terrible. Just get the official wireless keypad. It's like, what, $21 on Amazon? Here's the review of it, no such video demonstrating the actual typing though.

You can also check the third party controllers in Gamestop or Bestbuy like afterglow but I totally wouldn't recommend it. Like seriously. Shit's so bright even in daylight.

u/BravoGangUS · 5 pointsr/Rockband

What you read regarding a RB2 brain was likely for XB1, this is all you need to use an e-kit on PS4:

  • PS3 MIDI Pro Adapter

  • E-Kit with a MIDI-out

  • MIDI Cable

    How to set it up:

  • Plug one end of a MIDI cable into the MIDI-out of an e-kit and plug the other end into the MIDI Pro Adapter.

  • Plug the MIDI Pro Adapter into your PS4.

  • Enjoy.
u/subverxion · 5 pointsr/Tekken

Buying a cheap stick is not always a bad idea. Usually what sucks about cheap sticks is the actual buttons and joystick parts - these are fairly easily replaceable with high quality parts. You used to be able to buy buttons from lizardlick.com but apparently they've gone out of business so you'd need to use something like Focus Attack.

So you can buy a cheap stick, order some Sanwa or Seimitsu buttons and joystick, and spend less for basically the same quality stick as the high end ones. It does take the effort of ordering and changing out the parts though (really not too hard) so the savings will have to justify the effort for you. It does let you customize your stick more though, and it will give you some experience if you want to mess with the stick in the future to deck it out or change out parts.

You can also dual mod them yourself or pay people to. Haven't looked into this so not sure if it would be cheaper to get a cheap stick + high quality parts + dual mod than just buying an already dual modded high end stick.

For example, my friend did all of this with this stick as a start. And yet he still hasn't changed the panel art...

u/Cynfidel · 5 pointsr/Skullgirls

I've been recommending (and probably always will) the MadCatz WWE Brawl Stick to anyone looking for a cheaper stick. As of time of this comment, its $45 on Amazon with free shipping if you use Prime. Its WWE branded, which isn't really that popular, I guess, so they're a little cheaper than the exact same (mechanically) Street Fighter IV stick.

The actual stick isn't perfect, and the buttons are a little iffy. Everything on it is standard, however, meaning you can drop the money a month or two down the road to upgrade the hardware to something a bit higher quality (Sanwa OBSF-30 buttons and Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT-SK stick come to mind).

Edit: PS3 version is what I'm using. Works on PC with no third-party drivers or hacks. PC simply sees it as a generic USB controller.

u/blastcat4 · 4 pointsr/Surface

From my own perspective, I could not dream of using Photoshop without having the keyboard within easy reach. I live and die by keyboard shortcuts. As you've found out, using Photoshop with only the pen can feel very inefficient when drawing or editing.

Some Surface and tablet owners use game controllers as a secondary input device in Photoshop. Different tools are mapped to the controller buttons.

A popular controller is the Playstation Move Navigation Controller

So for example, you could set it up like this.

The controller is wireless so it should be pretty convenient to use. But personally, I think it's just better to keep the keyboard attached.

It's a bigger investment but it'll give you a more flawless experience while playing drums.

[This is the midi adapter] (https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Rock-Band-MIDI-PRO-3/dp/B0042B3EOM). You can plug any e-kit (electronic drum kit) into it, and use it to play Rock Band. I personally use [this one] (https://www.amazon.com/Alesis-Nitro-Kit-Electronic-Cymbals/dp/B0187KO8X4/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1496718032&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=alesis+nitro)

u/idkmybffjoe · 4 pointsr/PS3

It would likely be this one. I don't own one myself, and it's no MadCatz TE, but they make decent products in general, and if you're down to do an art mod, it could easily be a solid casual stick. It all depends on how seriously you want to take it-- no sense dropping $150+ on a stick if you're just going to play online at home for six months and then drop the game forever. If you're looking into playing competitively at tournaments? I'd recommend just saving up for a bit longer and buying the best stick you can. Most tournament players use either Hori or (most commonly) the MadCatz TE, but it's your call. Some even use pad successfully (see: Fanatiq). Good luck!

u/gadorp · 4 pointsr/Games

I loved that stick, I have a PS3 controller with one just like it, but it's a d-pad.

I have Sports Champions (the one that came bundled) and The Fight, and then the rest of my games are light-gun games. I picked up a Sharpshooter and it really completed the experience. It's a high quality accessory, and it's much more entertaining to hold a replica gun than it is to point the Move controller at the screen. I was always a fan of arcade shooters, and this brings that feeling into your living room pretty well.

u/mneptok · 3 pointsr/PS3

Killzone 3 and Resistance 3 are platform exclusive shooters with 3D support. I have played both, and both are worth their current non-release day price.

I have not played either of these games with the Playstation Move/Eye, Playstation Nav controller and/or the Playstation Sharpshooter. But you can. For a most un-desktop computer experience.

Siden Wii controller fungerer greit - Her er kanskje noe inspirasjon:

> Why the hell are they not using the "nunchuck" in the left hand to control movement? I think the game would be a lot less sluggish with proper analog movement.

The nunchuck(I'm assuming you mean the Navigation Controller) isn't trackable, so Sony likely telling developers to not rely on it.

As for sluggish controls...I feel like that's kind of the point. Golems aren't known for being super smooth and swift.

u/shoehaunted · 3 pointsr/Steam

Maybe getting a Playstation Move Navigation Controller or just using half of a regular gamepad would open up a few different games you can play. Use Steams controller binding software to bind eveything you need to the right side. Could work for racing games or platformers.

Microsoft is also coming out with their own Adaptive Controller which should allow lots of customization to use a foot pedal and other things.

Edit: Another option would be a flight stick

u/bushrod · 3 pointsr/PSVR

I've been saying that since the Move controller came out for PS3, when you needed a special "Navigation controller" for the thumbstick. Why not just put a thumbstick on all Move controllers? Mind-bogglingly stupid decision.

u/b4kedpie · 3 pointsr/PS3

Sony brand PS2 controller + PS2 to USB converter = best PS3 controller for cheap.

http://www.amazon.com/PS2-Playstation-Controller-Adapter-Converter-3/dp/B000PS1TG6/

When the PS3 is on and the controller is plugged in, press the Analog button to "sync" the controller. The Analog button acts as the Home button. Press once for the XMB and twice for the controller options.

Want Xbox a styled controller? Look in-store Walmarts for Power A controller. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Pro-EX-POWER-A-PS3-Wired-Controller-Black-PS3-PS3/14962336

Another Xbox style: PDP Afterglow
http://www.amazon.com/Afterglow-AP-1-Controller-PS3-Playstation-3/dp/B003IU01LC/

Third party controllers are known to have more dead zone in the analog sticks. So I'd go the PS2 controller route if you need that precision.

Afterglow controllers are pretty good. Around 25 normally, and on sale through Amazon right now.

u/sirjimithy · 3 pointsr/Rockband

You'd just need the PS3 Rock Band MIDI Pro Adapter. I'd also recommend the Nitro kit, btw. I use that one myself. If you wind up getting it and have any questions on using it with RB, let me know!

u/moneyman12q · 3 pointsr/Games

im pretty sure you could use this to plug in a real fender through midi

u/Easy_fan · 3 pointsr/Rockband
u/mystakin · 3 pointsr/Rockband

If your kit has midi out, you're playing on PS4, and you have this thing you should be all set as far as I know.

If you're on XBOX, you can still do midi out into an old Guitar Hero kit but you won't get access to Pro drums.

u/EvilTrovis · 3 pointsr/Rockband

MIDI output refers to the electronic drum kit's ability to output signals via a MIDI cable. It's a standard in the music industry and really has nothing to do with video game consoles, but you'll need it for this scenario.

The connection looks like this:

http://cdn-data.motu.com/site/images/ultralite-mk3/midi-connections_01.gif

Ideally, any e-kit you choose would have that connection (technically there are workarounds, but if you're buying an e-kit anyway, just buy one that supports it). While most modern e-kits offer this form of output, some kits only offer it via a USB cable (which is not what you want).

Now, since video game consoles don't use MIDI connections for anything, that's where the RB3 MIDI Pro Adapter comes into play. Since you're on PS4, you'd need the adapter for PS3, which is here:

https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Rock-Band-MIDI-PRO-Adapter/dp/B0042B3EOM/

In addition to that adapter, you'd need a standard MIDI to MIDI cable, which can usually be purchased for a few bucks. The end result would be your e-kit -> MIDI cable -> RB3 MIDI Pro Adapter -> connected to the PS4.

Going back to you mentioning drum brains, that refers to the module that essentially ties an e-kit together. It's the computer (if you will) that processes all of the signals and sounds, and all of the pads and cymbals of your e-kit connect to it. Every e-kit will have a brain; generally, the more you pay for an e-kit, the nicer the module is and the more features it offers.

With the exception of the ION Drum Rocker (which was a specialized, stripped-down e-kit for use with Rock Band), no e-kits will natively support Rock Band, which is why you need the RB3 MIDI Pro Adapter.

If you want to be able to simulate playing with the hi-hat open and closed, be sure to buy an e-kit that will allow you to modify the MIDI triggers for such a scenario. You'd need one that allows you to map the MIDI trigger for the hi-hat when the pedal is up to match whatever you're using as the blue cymbal, and at the same time it needs to allow you to have a different MIDI trigger when the pedal is down to match the yellow cymbal. Furthermore, you'd need to have the pedal itself not act as a bass pedal, or it would break your combo every time.

u/Brodusa · 3 pointsr/Fighters

You can start on this one

It's not the best thing out there but it's not bad either, buddy of mine got this stick changed the artwork on it and replaced the stick with a balltop quicklink and the buttons with Crown buttons. (he wanted to try them out)

It will get the job done for getting used to using a fight stick and will last long enough for you to save up money for something better.

A few good places to look for information:

  1. SRK is a good place to go to see all the latest news; there are forums there and one is called the Newbie Saikyo Dojo made specifically for new players to learn stuff about the genre. SRK also has a lot of resources on finding people near you to play games with. Online play is a good way to practice, but there's nothing like playing against someone in person when it comes to getting better.

  2. As another person suggested, the David Sirlin tutorials for Super Turbo focus on fundamentals that you can apply in most any fighting game.

  3. Eventhubs also has a lot of good information as well.

  4. If you're looking to buy a stick, but don't know if you want to make a heavy initial investment, look for the WWE All-Stars Brawl Stick. It's cheaper than buying a TE, and easily moddable if you want to upgrade the parts in it. Once you're ready for a bigger investment (especially if you decide to get into tournaments), the MadCatz TEs are really good, but I would suggest (especially if you don't have a modder in your area) getting a Qanba or an Eightarc stick, because they work on both 360 and PS3 and are quality products.

As for a game, Super Street Fighter IV AE would probably be your best bet. Find a character (I usually recommend Ryu to new players because you can learn all the basics like footsies, zoning, anti-airing, spacing, and so on and so forth) and play around a little bit. If you decide to step into the online arena, you're going to lose. A lot. Stick with it.

If you want to try out UMvC3, go for it. It is easy to learn, yet hard to master, and not as hard as it looks. To beginners, the game looks and seems extremely fast, but the game slows down as you get used to it.

I see this all the time and want to get you one, but $40 is just out of my budget. I keep looking through Amazon for something good, but cheaper - but alas, the price to pay for any good controller these days just seems to be $40+. I keep looking at the PS3 Versus Controller, but it doesn't have reassuring reviews...

I'd be willing to pay up to $25 if you find something worth it.

The deadzone is horrible on that model. I bought one about a year ago for the exact reason that I like the 360 controller more. There's a newer one that is blue that they fixed the deadzone and it's the perfect replacement for the 360 controller on the PS3.

Here it is: http://www.amazon.com/Mini-Pro-Elite-Wireless-Playstation-3/dp/B005761BGO/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1370644627&sr=8-5&keywords=power+a+ps3

Doom and gloom? The older the battery the less of a charge it holds. That is fact in 99% of consumer grade rechargeable batteries. I never said I was an expert, this is general knowledge everyone learns from the decades of using devices with rechargeable batteries in them in the past. My comment was that buying used has potential for a person paying even more money when they inevitably have to replace the battery inside sooner rather than later all to save $5 maybe $10. Right now you can buy a new Move from Amazon for $25.

If the battery is bad they will replace the unit with no charge to you.

u/csolisr · 3 pointsr/Fighters

The MadCatz Fight Stick Pro goes for $100, is moddable, works on PS3 and PC, and even has a few perks (Start/Select buttons on the back, controller blocker to avoid unwanted pauses in tournaments, and a compartment for storing the cable). Definitely a good starting point for most fighters. If you want something even cheaper, I've been playing with a Hori Fighting Stick Mini 3 that goes for about $50. Being "mini", it's smaller than the average, however be warned that it's not easily moddable, and that it weighs rather little so it may slip with intense gameplay.

u/ginja_ninja · 2 pointsr/gaming

I have a Hori Real Arcade Pro 3. It works on my PS3, PC, and Mac. The buttons aren't great and start to get sluggish after a few months, but the stick part is top quality and the entire thing is easily moddable (no solders required, all you need is a phillip's head and a bolt remover); I ended up buying some Sanwa buttons to install a few months after I bought it for about 20 bucks. They are smooth as hell and I haven't had to do any additional work on it for the over a year that I've had it.

Here's what it looks like now.

u/mundox · 2 pointsr/GameDeals

Serious question: does it work on Windows?

I bought an arcade stick for my ps3 which works flawlessly on my PC, but it is not an tournament edition stick.

u/confederacyofpapers · 2 pointsr/truegaming

http://www.amazon.com/Street-Fighter-FightStick-Tournament-Playstation-3/dp/B001M25AY6/ref=pd_sim_vg_5

You definetly do not need an arcade stick to play fighting games, it's simply a matter of preference, the only reason the stick is preferred by the fighting game players is that they grew up playing in arcades with the stick as the preffered controller. Ever since SF4 came out there has been a new generation of pad players that are doing pretty well :(Wolfkrone, top seed for evo points, Vangief, both of these guys are pad players and placed top 8 SSF4 in EVO). And for Marvel you really dont need a stick at all as execution is extremely easy. So if you aren't commited to paying 100+ USD for a quality stick, might as well play with your pad, as the stick wont make you a better player instantly, and sticks have a learning curve too. Can you mention the games that you want to play and how much money are you willing to shell out for a stick?

u/ImpulseControl · 2 pointsr/gaming

They do make a top of the line fight stick for PS3 and XBox...for 250 bux. Worth. Every. Penny.

Edit: It looks like they jacked up the price on this model since I bought mine for ~150. They are selling the new Tekken model of this same fight stick for 150 as well.

u/LemonDandy · 2 pointsr/StreetFighter

I'm assuming you have a TE 1 stick that was released in 2009? (http://www.amazon.com/Fighter-FightStick-Tournament-Edition-Playstation-3/dp/B001M25AY6) I used to have this problem until I bought a USB card and attached it to my computer

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008IPXOWU?psc=1 (This card can read USB 1.1 - 3.0)

I think the stick is a USB 1.0, and my computer doesn't read USBs lower than 3.0, and cards like these did the job!

I also own a PS3 mad cats TE stick (mine has different art than this, best match I could find), I really like that one too. I use this usb stick to make mine work with my switch

I find that these sticks each have their own pros and cons.

I use the MadCatz on my pc as my main steam controller. I use the Hori on my switch. The adapter is used for when a friend comes over. I would never take the MadCatz stick to a competition. It only takes one drunk dudebro spilling a beer to ruin my irreplaceable controller.

If I were you, I would pick the Hori controller for simplicity and price. However if you want to try the MadCatz I found this for about 85-100, it may pair well with the use this usb stick for a very good $120-130 price tag. However the $85 sticks are stated to be in what amazon calls "acceptable condition" and may be missing packaging, manuals, or other pieces.

Dat is a nice canvas. I mean a really nice Canvas. 6 yards?! You could literally paint allll the the things!

Both of these are on my randoms list:

  • My current high priority item is the fitbit flex! I had been given a Force without the charger which was cool for a few days until it died and they no longer sell them anymore. I had really been wanting one for a while. Give me that little extra motivation to be more active.

  • Also on my random list is the PS Move Controller which also goes along with the more active bit. I figure if I am going to play games then I want to be active while doing so. Some games require the second controller, such as this one.

I'm kinda the same way. Keyboard is still just a bit awkward for me, but I found an amazing solution:

For my mouse i have a great Logitech 700. Just great all around. Lots of buttons, which means left left hand work.

For the left hand however, I bought a Playststion Navigstion controller. It is basically the left half of a console controller with stick, DPad, 2 trigger buttons and a few other gen buttons. It is just IDEAL for me. All you need is the USB charging cable and/or Bluetooth. Just link it up and set a profile. It's super easy once it's set up!

If all else fails you can buy a PDP branded third party controller. To which 2 were made by them. Afterglow, and rock candy. They'll be the closest thing you'll get to a Dualshock 3 on PS3. That and they are quite reliable compared to the cheap knock-off Dualshock 3 controllers commonly found all over the place nowadays. Only downside is they are for the most part obtainable online since they were part of the PS3 era, and for the most part mainly PS3 games can be found.

The few chances of a genuine Dualshock 3 used in a store are rare, along with any official third party controllers like the ones I noted. Anyways I've linked both below.

i'm going to buy [The AfterGlow] (http://www.amazon.com/Afterglow-AP-1-Controller-PS3-Playstation-3/dp/B003IU01LC) in a month or so. To be honest the Pro Elite Controller is almost twice as more expensive as the after glow and there are bad reviews about it. But if price is not an issue then definitely buy [The MadCatz MLG PS3 Controller] (http://www.amazon.com/Offically-Licensed-Circuit-Controller-Playstation-3/dp/B0063BCQ20). The best thing about it is that you can switch the dpad and analog in any format that you want. Here's a [video] (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uF_XKj4gzJk) describing what i just said.

Last week I caved and got a DFGT. For 30€ I build a table for it out of 4 table legs and a 18"x6" shelf.
I used to play GT and GT2 with an Ultra Racer, I've always wondered why there aren't more controllers based on those pistol-grip RC car transmitters like this one.
This thing probably somes closest to what you're looking for.

u/TheMainTank · 2 pointsr/gaming

Like Pereb27 says, your best bet is probably 3rd party controllers. You're definitely not the only person that feels that way about the first party ps3 remotes. PowerA makes my favorite ps3 controller although not all of theirs have sixaxis, which will be a problem in The Last of Us when you need to shake the controller to fix your flashlight. That one has the concave trigger buttons and sticks like the xbox controller, which is pretty much the only thing i always hated about the ps3 controllers.

u/johnchipman · 2 pointsr/emulation

I always recommend the Power A Pro Ex PS3 controller. It's usually in the neighborhood of $13 on Amazon and it is the best controller I have used for emulating multiple platforms outside of Playstation, Xbox, and Nintendo brand controllers.

Edit: here's a link. I guess the price went up. You can check Walmart too. A few friends bought this controller there for less than $15. Can't figure out how to format it on mobile, so here it is

I bought that and use that for this game. I also use it for my PS3 with out issues. 100+ hours in ETS 2 so far and zero issues. If you get it and want my lay out let me know and I can write it out. Basically I can operate everything in my truck with this for cheap.

u/Rakudjo · 2 pointsr/Rockband

Unfortunately, no. You will need:

  • Alesis Nitro kit (or any other kit you see fit)

  • Rock Band Midi converter (labeled for RB3, but still works for RB4) for the correct console

  • Midi cable (you may be able to find one cheaper)

Overall it's about an extra $35 on top of the kit.
u/sons_of_mothers · 2 pointsr/Rockband

PS4 Adapter: PlayStation 3 Rock Band 3 MIDI PRO - Adapter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0042B3EOM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_aB14BbDAQJ3GC - $39.95

If you have an Xbox bad news is those are much harder to come by, but good news is you have rock band on an Xbox so your calibration should be top notch

u/qspec02 · 2 pointsr/Fighters

It depends on your use case, but I find the place I am most likely to spend money first is on the board. I want/need something that easily plays all modern consoles.

That said, I think starting cheap can be perfectly viable. My first stick was this monstrosity. Which over time turned into this little cutie. I ended up paying an art commission, upgrading to Seimitsu parts, and though I've since moved on, I loved that thing.

I'd make sure the one you want has room in the case as not all fightsticks are easily moddable, but yeah... start cheap if you want and build up over a few months or so.

u/natiahs · 2 pointsr/WWEGames

I still have a couple of the arcade sticks! https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-WWE-Stars-Brawl-Stick-3/dp/B004M25NNQ

(Just to clarify, I mean in my personal collection. The ones on Amazon are not mine.)

u/DaymanMaster0fKarate · 2 pointsr/SF4

Don't spend your money on that.

If you play on PC or PS3 get this, it's $40 right now. thats the best stick you can get that's not Sanwa or Semitsu parts.

Otherwise get this pad.

u/elentrepreneur · 2 pointsr/Skullgirls

When I was researching sticks, I attempted to calculated out how much money and effort was required to build my own stick, compared to buying a TE, or other premade. When you talk about buttons being roughly $25, joystick being around the same, and PCB's ranging from $30-$60, it does add up quickly. On top of the wiring/soldering you have to do, it was more than worthwhile to purchase an arcade stick from a company that specializes in that very thing.

There are cheaper options, though. The Mayflash USB Arcade Fight Stick and the WWE All-Stars Brawl Stick are both decent sticks in the $30-$40 price range.

u/Dropkick715 · 2 pointsr/PS3

If you are not sure if playing games with a stick is something you are going to like, an okay choice for a starter stick would be the WWE Brawl Stick. If you decide to become more serious about fighting games these sticks are fully compatible to swap in Sanwa brand stick and buttons no soldering required, which are what most players prefer and the same parts most expensive sticks use.

The arcade stick on the left is custom made and is compatible with 360, PS3, and PC. I got that one used on eBay for $80 shipped. So it is possible to get a good stick with full Sanwa parts used. These parts were designed for use in arcades and they can take some real abuse.

The second one is limited out of 300 and I got that for $150 with a book bag carrying case. It looks like Amazon has this model for $137 right now. Usually when there is a major fighting game tournament going on these sticks get discounted even more on the official Madcatz store.

If you want a relatively high quality XBox style controller for PS3, you could get a MLG branded controller. It's made by Mad Catz and it's expensive but I hear the quality is decent and you can configure it to your liking.

u/SiQQ_CS · 2 pointsr/pcgaming

I remember in 2012 MLG and Mad Catz released a similar controller where you could switch out the position of the sticks and the dpad; https://www.amazon.com/Offically-Licensed-League-Gaming-Circuit-Controller/dp/B0063BCQ20?th=1

It also let you switch out the xbox-style dpad for a Playstation-esque "separated" dpad, which was a neat addition.

u/jbigboote · 2 pointsr/PS3

here you go. note that the sticks and d-pad are interchangeable.

u/Vault24 · 2 pointsr/MortalKombat

Even if it has a solid build, the price of that thing leaves me dumbfounded, when I've seen other things such as qanba fightsticks which is slightly priced lower, with the pc/ps3 black clip on version sitting at $70, which is the highest I'd probably go. I havent heard of anyone using a fightstick for MK, usually they use it for Street Fighter, King of Fighters, etc etc. I'm getting a white PS3 controller (first dualshock since PS2 days), hopefully I won't be a pad warrior for long lol.

From what you've said, I think your best option is buy a new hard drive and swap out the old one in that ps3 and buy a remote like this for your parents. Its quite easy to use, my folks used that for a long time, with MKVs becoming more and more prevalent, it became more annoying, they use their iphones to send it to the apple tv now (wasn't easy to teach them but they got the hang of it)

I was a teenager in the late 80's, which is for me the golden era of arcade.

Just a non exhaustive list of arcade games that I played the shit out of: Rygar, Bubble Bobble, Xain'd Sleena, Double Dragon, Wonderboy, Gauntlet, Gunsmoke, Choplifter, Rampage, Golden Axe, Empire City, etc.

And these games were not only about playing them, it was also about watching other people playing them and talking about them.

Then in the 90's, arcade just became mostly about Fighting and Driving games, and I was not into these: getting older, not good at them, and them being more and more expensive to play.
And finally came out console and PC gaming which marked the end of arcade games.

I definitely miss these days, and I am sure this is a concept which can not stand nowadays except for nostalgia for people like me, and maybe for driving games which can be more seen as some sort of driving simulators that you cannot have at home.

But personally, I can sort of revive these days especially thanks to emulators and stuff like this. And I still have a lot of fun. These games definitely don't get old.

Aragorn's Quest is all right. Unless you're hardcore Tolkien fan, skip that one.

Killzone 3 with the attachment Comedian70 recommended is pretty fun. Strafing as your primary movement will take a bit to get used to, but other than that it's a headshot galore (yes, also in multiplayer. yes, i played it with move, and would still do it if I had time).

Sports Champions is especially solid Move example for bigger parties.

Now, Resident Evil 5... Let's just say I have a Platinum trophy in that game basically thanks to Move (and a buddy of mine, who's presence as P2 eliminated the idiotic AI shenanigans). Get the Sharpshooter accessory for it, though.

u/Malcorin · 1 pointr/Games

Oh cool I hadn't seen either the "THINGY" nor "Dualplay". It's a bummer that it looks like the "Dualplay" indiegogo never made it. That would have been useful. But you can't argue with the simplicity/accessibity/low cost of other hardware store based alternatives.

At some point down the road I do want to add in EXT port attachment handling so that we could support attachments like the sharshooter attachment (http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Move-Sharp-Shooter-3/dp/B002I0K622), that work will come after PS4 camera support (via https://github.com/bigboss-ps3dev/PS4EYECam) and DS4 support.

I haven't tried it in Overwatch yet (I'm still playing on PS4) but for other FPS games I use the PS3 nunchuck and rebind the keys since I much prefer an analog stick (even if it's actually digital input in this case) to WASD. Since you came from a console this might feel more comfortable for you too.

u/djaeveloplyse · 1 pointr/gaming

u/mfshadow · 1 pointr/PSVR

Makes you wonder why they didn't implement the move "navigation" controller along with the PS3 moves:

https://www.amazon.com/Playstation-Move-Navigation-Controller-3/dp/B002I0K6X6

u/pocketmnky · 1 pointr/PSVR

I think until Sony releases a more reliable move controller solution (one that doesn't get obscured by your head/body/chair whenever you turn around or reach down) I'm fine with controller support only.

After playing RE7 and overcoming VR sickness from smooth locomotion (RE7 does a great job darkening your peripheral vision when you turn and move quickly so that helps a lot) I'm feeling like more controller based FPS games are possible without the need for janky teleportation mechanisms.

I can almost see a future game that uses both the move controller and the DS4 controller, but not necessarily at the same time; although I can't figure out the logistics of having to set down one controller and pick up the other unless the PS4 is actively tracking the position of both so it can show you where you left them in the real world.

Didn't Sony come out with a nunchuck-like move controller attachment to give you the ability to have a navigation option along with one hand to swing a sword or something? Why can't we do that?

u/angry_spooky · 1 pointr/playstation

It’s controller from PS move generation called “PlayStation Move Navigation Controller”. I bet you can buy them everywhere. Here’s amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/Playstation-Move-Navigation-Controller-3/dp/B002I0K6X6

u/morphinapg · 1 pointr/PS4

> A requirement just means a huge waste of resources since you can't always guarantee 60fps everywhere unless you lower the graphics to the lowest capable of running 60fps in the hardest area.

Again, you're speaking from PC experience. Console development is vastly different. It's extremely easy to hit a frame rate lock goal when developing for console. Just don't ever add anything to your game that drops you below that goal. Since you know the hardware, it's incredibly easy to achieve this.

>You also misunderstand my criticism of the Move. The tracking is indeed quality, but there's no movement options on it. No d-pad, no analog stick, you have to hold a DS4 in one hand that defeats the point of immersive tracking wands. It also only has one button on the rear making grip mechanics like on the Touch very difficult.

The PS Move has navigation controllers.

u/DrakonLitshed · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

You can use it on all games that don't require motion controls like ARMS. As long as it uses traditional controls like Zelda you can use the pro controller.

For me i know i'm going to find the joy-cons very comfortable, when i tried the PS Move i didn't like the motion control features but i immediately thought it would be really comfortable if i had just 2 of those navigation controllers i could let my arms rest comfortably at my sides/on chair arms to play.

u/djpokeboy · 1 pointr/emulation

Not that crazy, but I put a fair amount of effort into Trauma Center. It's played with the Nunchuck's analogue stick to select tools, with the pointer to control everything else. Digital keyboard felt awkward, and you can't do anything accurately with pointer on analogue.

So I bought a Bluetooth dongle and spent a day setting up SCPToolkit to connect my PSMove Navigation Controller. It worked well, until I found that the game was damn near impossible with the wiimote rotate movement bound to buttons, as it'd constantly rotate when the button was held, then rotate back when released.

So I then had to spend another day getting the controller working through Steam's controller configurator, with a toggleable control set swapping the analogue stick to control rotation, all for just two games.

I'm still unsure if the game was worth all the effort put in, but it was still damn fun!

u/chuiu · 1 pointr/pcgaming

You might want to try the PS move controller. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002I0K6X6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I was able to pair it with my PC using bluetooth. It works well but I don't use it with most games because it doesn't have enough buttons to cover what I need. But since you're getting a mouse with more buttons also it might workout for you. (my mouse only has a couple extra)

Edit: I don't know why the listed price is so ridiculously high, you can probably find it cheaper elsewhere. I only paid $18 for mine.

I use an analog stick to move around but I still aim with my mouse. I know this is unconventional but it's really comfortable. and I can press keys on my keyboard while still holding it. That's how I make it look like I'm doing both things at once

u/makeshift_euphoria · 1 pointr/HiTMAN

I use a controller for everything but aiming, since you just can't beat a mouse for accuracy.

Generally, I find 3rd person games play better with a controller (analog stick/triggers), while 1st person games play better with a keyboard and mouse (easier to look around/aim).

You can also have the best of both worlds by pairing a PS3 Navigation Controller with a mouse, like this. Use the analog stick on the navigation controller for movement, and use the mouse to look around/aim.

A gaming mouse with lots of extra buttons (e.g. Logitech G600) would be ideal for this kind of setup.

I've never really liked the positioning of the analog sticks on the first-party PlayStation controllers; the AP.1 gives it more of an Xbox 360 feel with the positioning of the sticks.

That being said, with the AP.1 you don't get Bluetooth connectivity, Sixaxis support, and the wireless can be a little touchy sometimes. I'll take it for half the price of a Sony controller, though. There's a lot of crap out there when it comes to third-party controllers, but I've never been disappointed by Afterglow.

u/xFulcrum · 1 pointr/gaming

I don't see this listed in the comments already so I'll toss this here. I picked one up to play the few games I own the ps3 for due to the swapped analog sticks. I also have the 360 version that I use as my PC controller. They aren't wireless, and the ps3 version still has the general shape and feel of a ps3 controller, but if what you want most from the xbox controller is the reversed sticks, then I definitely recommend it.

EDIT: changed link to amazon as it's half price there. Also I should mention that it comes in 2 other colors and the light can be turned off.

Well, here's what I know of:

  • Price / name / steering / details
  • $12 / Kontrol Freek Speedfreek / gamepad stick extention / NEEDS EXISTING CONTROLLER [review]
  • $22? / Blackhorns PC Gamepad / two-thumb wheel / PC PS2 PS3, non-namebrand, large deadzone?
  • $40 / HKS Racing Controller / thumb wheel, ??° / Out of production? PS3 only? [review]
  • $43 / Thrustmaster Ferrari Wireless Gamepad / 90° thumb wheel / PC and PS3, Wireless, NO RUMBLE [review]

I think I'm leaning toward the Thrustmaster; some of the reviews indicate (relatively) fragile build quality, but wireless would be convenient for me and for a mere $43 the thumb-wheel seems worth a try.

> In any case, what do you prefer?

I've got a pair of these and they work pretty nice. I think they needed a driver on Windows XP, but every other OS I've used them with they were Plug-n-Play. You might run into issues with programs that only support XBox controllers, though. I've also got NES and SNES controller adapters from this site. Great for emulation. I've never noticed any lag and the plastic is pretty nice.

> A friend mentioned that the wireless controllers will not work with PC, even with the wire charger/adapters.

I'm pretty sure this is false. Microsoft themselves make adapers, and there are many third-party ones on Amazon. (I'm not very familiar with XBox products, so I can't tell which one is the official adapter, so I don't have a link. The best I could find is this on Newegg.) With bluetooth (you can buy a "dongle" if your PC doesn't have it, which it probably doesn't) and Motioninjoy, you can use also use PS3 controllers.

I use a 3rd party controller with my PS3...the layout is the same, but of course, it'll feel a little different.

u/DGPantherX · 1 pointr/Rockband

IIRC, you can always find a cheap MIDI kit and use the RB3 MIDI Pro Adapter. I managed to find a kit all too similar to the ION Drum Rocker for only $50! And although it didn't have a bass pedal, I managed to create my own using a cymbal pad as well as the structure used to hold up the Guitar Hero drum kit absolutely free. If the kit doesn't work at first, you can make it work for sure using Bome's MIDI Translator too.

u/aGooseChase · 1 pointr/Rockband
u/Pandos636 · 1 pointr/Rockband

I'm not on RB4 yet, so someone correct me if my info is outdated. That drum should work just fine. The connector you need is the Rockband MIDI Pro-Adapter found Here for X-box and Here for Playstation. It's pretty much impossible to find the adapter other than online. In addition you will need to purchase a short MIDI to MIDI cable as seen here (these are pretty easy to find at any music store, but you'll pay the usual 400% markup). Total cost is somewhere around $25-$45 to get you up and running.

u/sofawall · 1 pointr/Music

Any midi kit will work. I got one preowned for about 400 CAD, new is obviously much more expensive. Honestly, I got it for practicing drums quietly (or at least more quietly than acoustic), it working with Rock Band was a bonus. PS3 and PS4 both work using the PS3 Pro Midi adapter.

Llama is a pain in the ass, but I've always been a glutton for punishment in rhythm games. Again, I'm "that guy" who prefers playing for challenge and mechanical proficiency over simply songs that are good to listen to. Songs that are good and fun are definitely my most played, though, with Rush and Iron Maiden being easily my most played artists on Rock Band.

I've also been fooling around with a PC game by the name of Phase Shift lately. The aforementioned Midi Adapter and my PS3 GH guitar worked out of the box with it, and Custom Creators Collective has a ton of good customs for Rock Band, plus a tool for converting from RB format to Phase Shift format. I've been having a ton of fun with Domino the Destitute by Coheed and Cambria, for an example of an easier song that I enjoy playing..

u/hwill_hweeton · 1 pointr/Rockband

Thanks, your reply is super helpful.

So would you say that the gameplay on ps4 is actually worse due to the roll limit (Seems many users have issues with other bugs as well)?

>there's also a user-made adapter that doesn't suffer from the roll limit. Another $50 if you end up needing it.

I assume you are talking about this. Would that be a replacement for the adapter I would need anyway? Meaning I should buy that even if I go with a ps3, to give me the option to roll limitless on a ps4 in the future.

u/protopersona · 1 pointr/Rockband

If you have this Rock Band Pro adaptor and an E-kit that outputs this kind of midi port then yes, you're good to go. The problem is simply many newer E-kits have moved on in favor of USB connections for output which will not work on the PS4 version of Rock Band 4.

Since the DM6 only has a USB port, you'd have to connect it first to a computer. Then use a usb to midi converter to go from your computer to the midi pro adapter: http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Rock-Band-MIDI-PRO-3/dp/B0042B3EOM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1454095898&sr=8-1&keywords=ps3+midi+pro+adapter Then plug the pro adapter into the PS4.

Not sure what the software you need for the computer. Some sort of basic midi conversion thing, I guess.

I spent $40 on a bottom of the line Madcatz stick and then I hit up Paradise Arcade for a Seimitsu stick and buttons for about $60. It was super easy to put together and I ended up with the rough equivalent of a TE with custom colors for the same price.

u/Liquid_Otacon · 1 pointr/FLCL

What kind of fight stick do you have? I was doing the same thing not too long ago and found some templates for sticks. I still have the raw templates saved for this one. I gutted the stock parts and replaced them all with Sanwas

u/Yarcofin · 1 pointr/Skullgirls

Most people say anything under $60 isn't worth considering because some component will break within the first couple months. The only exception is the WWE All Stars Brawl stick (I don't know what makes it different and it doesn't seem to have Sanwa parts, which is the main thing you're looking for in a stick.)

If you can't drop $100 on a fightstick or not sure if you will be playing fighting games in a month or two, I would stick with a wired Xbox 360 controller. I upgraded from an Xbox controller to a fightstick 2 weeks ago and honestly it hasn't upped my game or made anything easier, in fact I am probably still a bit worse.

u/Ozymil · 1 pointr/Games

If you're looking for a reliable, cheap fightstick check out this stick on Amazon. It's $45 if you've got Prime. A decent stick for a good price, and you can change the faceplate.

u/AmuseDeath · 1 pointr/SF4

And you can get an even cheaper deal on certain sticks as well.

http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-WWE-Stars-Brawl-Stick-3/dp/B004M25NNQ

The point here is that yes, you can dual mod, but there are factors to look at: cost of the mod, knowing how to do it, having soldering equipment, time, etc. Or you can probably pay less to get a simple stick or some more to get a quality one.

u/Tierehl · 1 pointr/Fighters

Your other option is what I did, buy a MadCatz Brawlstick, and swap it Sanwa buttons and a joystick from FocusAttack and it will end up costing you around $80 depending on what system you buy it for and when you buy it (I assumed for PS3) and you will have a tournament ready fightstick.
PS: I changed the artwork for it, I didn't want The Rock and Triple H looking at me when I'm trying to mash DPs.

u/rockstarfruitpunch · 1 pointr/Games

I've got both a 360 and a PS3 Madcatz stick, and both work fine on my PC's. They're standard USB connections that windows recognises straight away. Hell, my Raspberry Pi recognised my PS3 stick straight away!

The reason why you're no longer seeing cheap SE sticks is because they are no longer manufactured, making them rare items.

Cheap SE sticks that can still be found for cheap (unless people have caught on) are the WWE Brawl sticks. Same as the Street Fighter SE sticks, but with WWE branding.

There is a difference between TE and SE sticks. SE sticks do not come with Sanwa parts by default - you will have to swap them out (easy to do, thank god!). TE sticks are bigger, heavier and come with the quality Sanwa parts. Saying that, it took a year for my SE stick buttons to die - your mileage may vary as I racked up about 300 hours on SF4 by then.

Qanba also do great sticks.

Also, whenever there is a big tournament happening, there will usually be a discount code advertised on the streams for cheaper sticks.

Here's the PS3 Brawl stick I have (I'm assuming you're american - I'm british):

http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-WWE-Stars-Brawl-Stick-3/dp/B004M25NNQ

Notice the PS3 one is cheaper - if you're only playing on PC, get the PS3 version.
Also do a google on the WWE Brawl stick, and see what the folks on youtube and shoryuken.com are saying about it. (ignore the folk who don't know that it's a better SF4 SE Stick).

If you do go for the stick, I would recommend swapping out the buttons for Sanwa parts.

Apparently some older PC's/Laptops might need motioninjoy for ps3 sticks to work. If you're using windows xp, and you get the 360 version, you will need to download the xbox 360 controller drivers. Windows Vista and up, you're fine.

u/RelentlessNoodle · 1 pointr/gamingsuggestions

That kind of control scheme sounds pretty awkward to me, but if it works why not go with it? The reason people buy those controllers I linked you is because they can't stand the D-Pad/analogue stick of the xbox controller, and $20 is a pretty cheap investment.

The cheapest stick I could find is this:http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-WWE-Stars-Brawl-Stick-3/dp/B004M25NNQ/ref=sr_sp-btf_title_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1367640078&sr=8-11&keywords=fightstick

You could always replace the faceplate to make it more appealing. That's essentially the same one I bought when I started, but a newer version (and with WWE art instead of street fighter). Make sure to do some research and make sure that it works on PC before you pull the trigger.

You can get a emulator front end for pc which works great it's also much easier to play mame aka arcade games on pc vs retro pie and obviously youu have more storage, like someone said above stay away from the packages of controllers, first those things should be 5 bucks a piece, not 80 for 3. Plus you don't want nes controller if you're emulating because you have access to so many consoles and with different controller layouts it's best to get one to suit your needs perfect. Here's a tip from your friendly intermediate wants-to-start-playing-in-tournaments-by-next-year Fighting game player: An Arcade stick won't necessarily make you better, and it isn't necessarily the better option. A lot of people when first entering the Fighting Game community, me included at first, see the pros all playing with arcade sticks and see them dominating in tournaments. Naturally, a lot of people assume that's the way to go and to just ignore controller. However, look at it this way:

The people that dominate in tournaments grew up playing in arcades. They prefer that layout, and thus they use arcade sticks.

It's all a matter of preference. The only thing that an arcade stick will make you better at is "plinking" which is a technique used only in SF4 and SFxTK, and even then it isn't important.

If you think you can learn better on controller, go for it. If you're like me and think an arcade stick is more comfortable, I highly recommend getting either the Hori Fighting Stick Mini 3 or getting a Qanba Q1 (If they ever get restocked)

Both sticks are cheaper than average yet still of good quality. If you're willing to spend that tiny bit more, you could get a Hori fighting Stick V3 for high quality and reliability. A little more from that and you can get MadCatz sticks, which are really good too.

Or, you can take a third option and try out a PDP Fightpad Which, while looking weird, actually work quite well and I have a friend who uses them as his main method of control.

Explore your options! Arcade stick may not be for you, try around and see what you're comfortable with. Just don't be like me and buy a cheap arcade stick... I bought a "Mayflash" stick and it works fine and does the job well, but it's reliability is known to be poor (Mine's lasted longer than two years, which apparently is a miracle) and overall just feel cheap (Which can be kinda annoying/distracting, but you may be able to get over it better than I can)

Hope I helped!

If you have a 360 or PS3 controller lying around give it a try with your example keys there.

This is a dirt cheap stick, but it should be moddable if you want to upgrade buttons or the joystick in your future. http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Arcade-Fighting-Joystick-Playstation-3/dp/B0015PHMFU/ref=sr_1_11?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1376331889&sr=1-11&keywords=fight+stick

u/TheDonofDay · 1 pointr/SF4

Cool, I'll look into that first before I make a decision. As an alternative, would this Hori stick be a good option as opposed to a pad or controller?

u/HalfCent · 1 pointr/Fighters

I'm gonna go a little bit against the other responses here, and say that I had a good experience with my $40 stick. I got a Hori Fighting Stick Mini 3 when they were $40 about a year and a half ago. I wasn't sure if I would like fighting games, and I didn't want to drop $150 on a stick if I wasn't going to stick with it. The $40 was worth it to have try a stick, knowing if I liked it I would probably upgrade.

The stick is definitely not the same quality or feel as something with Sanwa or Seimitsu parts. That being said, I completely disagree with anyone saying that a pad feels better than a cheap stick. This is personal taste, but just having the layout of a stick felt better than a pad for me. The small form factor was a plus for me, especially the thinness, because I play both PS3 and PC fighters at my desk. It's small enough to leave at the desk without taking up much room. I'm also pretty easy on my stick and don't slam it around like I see some people do when I play.

If you can afford a nicer entry stick, and think you'll like fighters, then definitely go for a better stick. For people who really can't afford spending $100 though, you may be perfectly happy with a cheap stick. I use Sanwa modded sticks and my cheap Hori, nothing in between, so I can't comment on the quality of in between sticks. I do like mine enough where I've had Sanwa parts sitting around for a few months and haven't finished making the custom case I have planned for them.

u/TheRandomizedGuy · 1 pointr/playstation

The DualShock 4 works with the PS3 but it's super wonky. For instance, the PS button has zero functionality. You can't just hit it and choose "Quit Game" to go back to the menu. Also, you have to play wired. The DS4 does not wirelessly communicate with the PS3. If your primary issue with the DS3 is that it's a bit small I'd suggest picking up the officially licensed controller from PowerA. It's still wired only but every button functions correctly and it's only like $20.

Admittedly the PowerA is a bit better with dead zones, but most of what I play isn't that precision-oriented. I think this one is a little more comfortable to hold than the PowerA and the turbo function is nice if you want it. It's wired, but the wire is generously long, and it has force feedback unlike the wired PowerA.

Not to knock the PowerA pad either - it's a genuinely good controller. I see it recommended a lot, though, so I wanted to offer up another suggestion as well. You'd do just fine with either one, or maybe get one of each.

We also tried the Logitech F310, and they felt too flimsy.

We settled on a set of Xbox knock offs from Amazon called EasySMX

They feel decent, work well with Cuphead and the racing game, and they fit well in the armrest.

maybe this adapter

Entirely worth the cost if you wanna play seriously and competitively. I'd consider one, but I'd rather save up for a PC because consoles kinda lost their allure for me.

It's supposed to be compatible with this Playstation Move Navigation Controller as well so you can keep analog foot movement, if you want.

It's no different than investing in a steering wheel for a racing game. Analog sticks just aren't very good for precision. Consoles are so similar to PCs now, they should just support M&KB by default to give players more options.

Mad Catz has one. I don't know what your price range is, but this one is pretty great. It has swappable sticks, so you can have it in any layout you want, with convex or concave sticks, and any dpad you want. It is pretty great. Pricey, but great.

They're $25 on Amazon, and they're not required. And the camera is only $50 on Amazon and can be bought cheaper.

EDIT: Downvoted for a factual post? Here are the links.

I would very much avoid going for cheap ones on ebay. They are incredibly dodgy and are pretty much going to break after a week of use, plus you might be waiting a month for them to come in the post as most of them are from china. I bought this one as a replacement to my sony one that got lost when I was moving house and I love it!

I high suggest you look at either this fight pad by HORI or this MadCatz one not many people think about getting a pad but its a say cheaper alternative than buying a stick and a WAAAAYY better DPAD than yourre used to i bought the Mad Catz one and it was the best decision i have made. espcially if youre looking for something wto help with your inputs these definetly do the trick as an aleternative to the controller and as a form of a "good cheap" fight stick. i know you said you were looking for a stick but these a great other options that most people arent aware of . and if you are aware of them and you say frick that get this fight stick.

I got mine on amazon. I bought two used from resellers. Even came with prime shipping. $19.99 each.

Has anyone tried it? Found here: Playstation Move Navigation Controller https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002I0K6X6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_GyFQAbY9V4QDF

I was able to get a stick for cheap ( https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-WWE-Stars-Brawl-Stick-3/dp/B004M25NNQ?th=1 ) and added sanwa parts to it (and new artwork https://imgur.com/a/1jp2c ). Kinda happy with it, even though I was not able to do it perfectly. But man, cheap and works well. Obviously I'm back at playing with a fightpad now.

The madcatz Brawlstick would be a great choice for about 70$
