We have twins, so the math and savings were pretty obvious - Disposable new born diapers - $21/76 count
which for our twins last 2 days (15+ diapers a piece a night at 10 weeks age). Over the last 8 weeks, that would be 6203.5=$560. Our cost for cloth was 4 dozen Osocozy prefolds at $26/dozen which is $104 plus 8x $10 for diaper covers
and another $10 for 10 snappies to close the prefolds with. Total cost was $190 vs 560 and we have another two months before they outgrow these!! No amount of laundry will hit $360 in cost even with the break-in 6x wash/dry cycle we did. If you can deal with managing the washer, it's a massive savings!!!
Our current wash method in an HE washer is 1 normal wash with 1/4 cup of detergent (dreft or store brand equivalent) and 1/4 cup baking soda on cold/cold with no spin (to keep the diapers soaked for the main wash), followed by a second normal wash on hot/hot + staincycle + extra rinse.
Takes about 3 hours but works out when you are up to change diapers at the same pace.
Edit - diapers each was changed from 30 to 15. The math is all correct.
