He could rip out the mobo itself and build a nice custom case for it, only igpu then sadly.

Otherwise with adapters then you can reuse the memory and probably the wifi card as well. Screen may be tricky and will require some soldering of a custom connector but should be able to be hooked up to hdmi, dvi or dp depending on what screen it is.

I would be interested to see if the keyboard and touchpad could be macguyverd into being recognized as regular usb devices.

I think you can get a sodimm to dimm adapter like this https://www.amazon.com/JET-5478MK2-204pin-SODIMM-adapter-Metal/dp/B005F0E26S although thats for ddr3

I guess there's SODIMM adapters, but I've never used one. It's almost $20 for the adapter, so unless you got the RAM at a great discount or can't return it, it doesn't seem worth it. Is the RAM otherwise compatible (DDR3 or whatever the other stick is)?

So there are SODIMM(the type of RAM laptops uses) to desktop memory adapters but they are mainly meant for testing purposes, not prolonged use. So if your budget is really tight I guess you can do that, but I would just get regular desktop memory if you can. You can use your hard drive from your laptop if that didn't get fried so at least you can reuse something but that's about it unfortunately.
