> Touch Pad: Not as good as the MBP13. Its responsive but I miss the force touch. Need to find a way of making it less 'jittery'. I'll be using it almost exclusively (no room for a mouse while using on the train :P) so hoping I get used to it

It will never be as good as the one on the MBP. "Get used to" it being shitty. Get a trackball for the train.

I'm just not sure there needs to be a "next level" here.

There are a few distinct variations on the mouse. For example, the 3D mouse, Apple's Magic Mouse, or perhaps a variation on the ergonomic mouse, and let's not forget the trackball mouse.

But, lots of people have tried to make a "next level" mouse without anything really catching on. Also consider how many programs have hotkeys that don't involve a mouse. Lots of power users on all types of systems (definitely including Windows) avoid touching the mouse if they don't have to, as it adds up as wasted time throughout the day.

Instead of trying to design something that everyone else would use, let's start trying to find the problem that you appear to be trying to solve. And to do that, let's start with your day-to-day. What actions do you perform in your normal day-to-day that you feel like would make more sense to move to the mouse? Do you already use an "MMO Mouse" with 20 buttons? If not, this might be the way forward for you.

I find that most people who still use a mouse are either in a workplace environment or they are playing computer games. Note that lots of people casually browsing the internet at home (not playing PC games, and not actively working) aren't even using a mouse at all.

So believe it or not, I play on a Highlander team in team fortress 2 and I use the third model you pictured. It takes getting used too, but once you get used too it, other models just don't feel the same. When I use it for gaming, sensitivity is key. Each game has a different sensitivity so trying to find one that works is key for trackballs. I only have the one I do because I didn't have the money for a better one but I still wanted a trackball.

The reason I like the third so much is because you can use 2 fingers to control the ball instead of just your thumb. It gives me some pretty insane accuracy on games that have sniper roles. Personal preference is pretty big when picking a trackball because of all the weird designs of them. A downside to the third one is that it does not have a scroll wheel, which is pretty frustrating at times. You can use the PG UP/DWN buttons but its just easier to have it on the mouse. I do believe that the buttons above LM and RM can be configured to use as a "hold and drag" kind of scroll wheel but its still troublesome. I recommend getting one like this?

Something like this might also help, but it is a smaller size.

Maybe this?

Trackballs are kind of expensive since very few people use them. Also I'm not really sure where to look for more trackball mice because I bought mine from a store. Good luck and ask if you have any questions! :)

You could try a wireless trackball like the Kenzington Orbit or Logitech M570
