I think you mean Ker Plunk

It's like playing Kerplunk - you might be able to eliminate any one species at the bottom of the ladder but sooner or later meddling with the system will crash it.

A blast from the past and now I feel the need to order it.

Kerplunk

Also Jenga, Tiddlywinks and Battle Ship.

There's a bunch of card games I enjoy too. Even simple ones like War, Old Maid and Go Fish.

A variation of Ker Plunk?

If you want to do a shorter dread game, I think you can generate similar tension if you use a game that requires less pulls. I've thought about the possibility of using Kerplunk as a replacement for the jenga tower, but it would result in much less pulls before death. Don't break the ice would also be pretty great for short game, especially one set in a cold climate.

As far as having shorter stories, try drawing your inspiration from cartoons or creepypastas even. Cartoons are a well laid out story that can't fill more than 15 minutes of time. Alternatively, short grimm brother stories can also make excellent dread campaigns. Perhaps the players are chilling at a cousin's cabin when they realize that the cabin is made of gingerbread. Then the witch comes home. Or perhaps the baba yaga's bird-legged house walks by.

Because dread is so flexible, I think there are definitely some ways you can cut the timing down to 20 minutes without having to make too many sacrifices.
