I see your point. However, there are already focusing lenses, monitor attachments for the kinect, and algorithm improvements to enhance the interface to be oriented towards a desktop setting.

I'm glad that someone else knows about the Leap Motion hardware. But, considering that you seem to be informed about current developments in "innovative" UI and interface designs, I am curious to hear why you feel that these particular interfaces are more prohibitive than the traditional keyboard/mouse interface.

Granted, more physical effort is exerted in order to navigate the interface, but doesn't it allow for greater agency and "natural" navigation of content? It certainly has novelty appeal, but I was convinced that this would be a technology that would stick (assuming future generations of the device would not limit or inhibit usage in a home workspace environment).

It seems to me that technology evolves first, by simulating the real world; once verisimilitude has been achieved, it evolves by revealing information inherent in the medium - not previously accessible by human experience; then by creative/artistic expression.

Kinect is still inadequately emulating the natural navigation patterns that humans use and is still evolving before the real benefits of this new UI style can be explored.

Having said this, I acknowledge that the keyboard has a particular benefit - as does the mouse (especially considering that an unaugmented Kinect is unrealistic to use for the traditional desktop environment as a replacement to the keyboard/mouse). But I wouldn't suggest that a "NUI" is more prohibitive that an interface built for keyboard/mouse controls.

It is interesting to see someone with knowledge of these devices, and the developments in their respective fields, with an opinion in opposition to my own. I'm genuinely interested in hearing if you feel that the current state of the technology is insufficient or if the NUI itself is insufficient.

Not sure if it will work for the new kinect but is works fine with the old one on a slim LCD TV. Although, I did put sticky on brackets for extra stability.

I mounted mine to the top of my TV, using this clip.
