I was pretty worried about the eyes. They took some patience, but it wasn't too hard. The paint consistency is important. It needs to flow, but not go all over the place.

  • Paint them pure white. Re-edge with flesh tone to clean up mistakes.
  • Put a small black dot where you want the center to be
  • Swirl outward making a black circle
  • Clean up outside with white to make it sharp and round
  • Use the same technique to paint a green circle inside the black circle
  • Now paint a black circle in the green circle
  • Carefully adjust the size of the circles with a tiny brush
  • After you're happy, put in the white reflection dot. I might put satin varnish over the eye first next time so I can recover from mistakes. Still not happy with the left eye, but it's good enough!

After glazing with gloss varnish a barely visible sienna oil wash was put in the bottom part of the eye to bring out the line. Then the mini was sprayed with dullcote.

I used this guy's eyes for inspiration.

I wore 1.5x magnifying glasses so I can see what I'm doing.

I use this.

Works well, but feels a little cheap.
