Nope, from the looks of it the volume of the tank isn't big enough to paint model kit parts with resulting in pulsing and there doesn't seem to be a pressure regulator, something like this would be more preferable.

I ordered [this one] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006HJCP8S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) earlier this year. Right now it is $99. It's been serving me well.

ok few points:

  1. The colored sprays from GW are NOT primer. They are a base color. GW makes 2 primer sprays: White and black. Thanks it/ If you're using the colored sprays as a primer you are going to see a lot of rub off when you start handling them. Those colors are designed to go on AFTER the primer.

  2. Primer color makes some difference in a few ways:

Black: Black sprays will make the colors painted over them darker and will also make recessed areas of the model more prominent. It also makes it harder to do lighter colors.

White: Great for lighter colors or shade only paint jobs. I love GW corax white for painting bone or light human/eldar skin.

Colored sprays: Colored sprays are good if you want to establish a color and not have to use as many coats of paint to achieve a particular color. One "cheat" method I've seen for Imperial Fists is to start with Army Painter yellow, throw a thin yellow layer, dry brush a white and then wash with Cassandora yellow. Simple and easy.

I've used all manner of primers (Kyrlon Fusion, Duplo, GW brands) and so far I've found that the Krylon is good, the GW Corax white is amazing but then I discovered airbrushing and everything changed. I live in a cold/damp area so priming outside or in my garage is a pain in the ass (FUCKING SPIDERS EVERYWHERE!!!!).

My wife got me a simple airbrush for Christmas 2 years ago and I didn't want to use it because I didn't want to reset my skills to zero using it. Then after a nasty rain spell I said "screw it. I'm gonna use this thing to prime models in my basement" and HOLY SHIT WHY HAVEN'T I DONE THIS SOONER?!??!?!?!? No more standing in the cold, no more watching out of one eye to make sure Monstro the Giant Fucking Spider that lives behind my paint cans isn't going to go Face Hugger on me, no more propellant high. It was awesome AND the primer is thinner/doesn't obscure detail. I was blown away. Vallejo surface primer is amazing, it's dirt cheap compared to a rattle can, moisture/cold isn't a factor and there's considerably less risk of dying from a spider laying eggs in your brain. It comes in a HUGE array of colors and eventually you can preshade for highlights with it. I know air brushing can be intimidating but once you make the decision to do it you will not regret it. Seriously. Even just for priming and basing.

This is the kit I got and I still use it.

If you don't need all that then all you really need it the compressor and the G22

I picked this up off of Amazon -

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006HJCP8S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I haven't used it yet, as I'm in the process of moving.

But It's not terribly expensive and will get me used to it, before I move onto something a bit better perhaps.

I have a Master Airbrush setup - compressor, 3 airbrushes. It's not brand-name quality, but it works quite well, as long as you maintain it. The problems I have are more from my inexperience than the airbrush's abilities.

The good: easy to clean, puts out consistent spray, no splatter (if thinned properly), compressor puts out steady 20psi.

The bad: regulator doesn't work - no matter what setting, it always puts out 50psi at first trigger pull, then drops to a steady 20psi. I just point off-target and bleed it down to 20 before each pass.

Large suction-feed brush handle broke off - about 2" of plastic behind the air line attachment.

Compressor - has autostart when psi drops, but sometimes it takes it forever (>30 seconds) to trip off. Doesn't do this when coming up from low pressure after spraying, only when it's been sitting idle for a long time.

I plan to upgrade in steps - use a Michael's 40% off coupon maybe - first, I'll get a new compressor (with a header tank this time). Then get a new detail brush, etc.

Bottom line: I use the heck out of it, the negatives aren't a big deal to me yet, and if I had to do it again, I'd buy it again. Good starter setup for less than $100.

Here's my most recent build. The body was sprayed with rattle cans, but all small parts were airbrushed (for example, the exhaust was airbrushed steel, then transparent yellow was airbrushed to simulate heat staining).

Just starting off, Master's Airbrush is a great intro to the hobby. You can add a spray booth to that and be off and learning pretty quickly. I started with a Master's compressor(the TC-20T), and a Badger Patriot 105(which I got on sale on Amazon).

hmm for offical gundam colors here is a link http://www.gundamplanet.com/gundam-color-spray-100ml-semi-gloss.html .

However, to get the color just the way you want it, its better to mix your own paint, and you can save up for a airbrush kit as you can pick up a starter kit, for about 100 bucks on Amazon, that comes with three airbrushes.

Here is a link to the kit i bought, which is good for pepole just starting out with airbrushing cause it comes with both styles of airbrushes: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B006HJCP8S/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1. despite beeing being 'cheap' airbrushes, they are all very good brushes.

However, if you do not mind hand painting you can just get a airbrush paint starter kit for around 20-34 bucks, that comes with all the basic colors needed to mix your own pigments. and well they are called airbrush paints they work just fine for hand painting as well.

You can also get spray paint cans that you can fill yourself, instead of a airbrush. They start at around 20 bucks for a single can. I do not know much about them as chose to get a airbrush instead.

As for paint well I have used a few different brands of airbrush paint for both airbrushing and hand painting. What I like best is Createx wicked colors airbrush paint. Its a water based self curing paint that is also made in the USA. Its safe for models and also a automotive paint.

I also recamend regardless of what type of paint you go with that you first use a lair of primer. Primer will smooth out any small defects that a gunpla gets from building it or accident.

http://otakurevolution.com/content/laymans-gunpla-guide has a great tutorial for beginner spraypainting and airbrushing techniques, along with a lot of other tips for building gunpla. despite having built a lot of kits i still check it from time to time.

I hope this did not come out to lecturery, helps you, and I hope you enjoy falling down the rabbit hole that is gunpla.

I use Master Airbrush stuff. I never used the super expensive airbrushes or whatever, and I don't plan on doing so when i can get a everything I need for a complete airbrushing solution for the price of just one airbrush.

I currently use this: https://www.amazon.com/Master-Airbrush-Multi-purpose-Professional-Airbrushing/dp/B006HJCP8S/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1478092330&sr=8-9&keywords=airbrush

However I wish I had gotten one with an airtank and not just a compressor, as the compressor is always running when I'm actually brushing.

I would recommend going with this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0017640RK/ref=pd_sbs_201_3?ie=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B0017640RK&pd_rd_r=CS5PGKKXM5455B94V0DA&pd_rd_w=LpOU8&pd_rd_wg=rukUc&psc=1&refRID=CS5PGKKXM5455B94V0DA

It's the same as I am currently using, but comes with an airtank (And that's the lowest price I've seen for it).

If that is a little steep to jump in with, I started with this months ago:

https://www.amazon.com/Master-Airbrush-MAS-KIT-VC16-B22-Compressor/dp/B00BF0MW9G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1478092330&sr=8-1&keywords=airbrush

And it has everything you need (minus paint) to get started, It's a great kit to get started, but the lack of a PSI gauge will limit you fairly quickly. And if you upgrade, the airbrush can still be kept moving forward.

Can you recommend a decent setup? I have looked around and read reviews but have not decided. I was looking at these two but do not know if I should spend more for something that is not a beginner level.

WIP https://imgur.com/gallery/Z8agx as promised. I'm not finished yet. I still need to complete the panel lining and add on a coat of future.

It's not -too- expensive to get into, but it is a bit of up front investment, as you need something for ventillation(search amazon for spray booths or you can look up how to slap one together with a box fan(I may do this at some point to get more space and get more cfm through the filter). I went wit a slightly more expensive kit that came with 3 brushes(so I could horse around and see which I preferred): https://www.amazon.com/Master-Airbrush-Multi-purpose-Professional-Airbrushing/dp/B006HJCP8S/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1503100981&sr=8-7&keywords=masters+compressor+airbrush but you can save ~$10 and go with https://www.amazon.com/Master-Airbrush-Multi-purpose-Dual-action-Compressor/dp/B001TO578Q/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1503100981&sr=8-4&keywords=masters+compressor+airbrush

You want a gravity fed airbrush there are several compressors that are quite and portable and still offer the amount of psi you need for an airbrush. I spent $100 on mine on amazon and it came with 3 air brushes. I haven't used any of them and would be a bit skeptical but I may test them out again once I get back into painting. Here is the air compressor I purchased

Beyond that there are a lot of people recommending badger air brushes and you will see that a lot. But they are rather expensive especially if you are just starting out. That being said there is an Iwata Neo available at Hobby Lobby if you are in the states. As seen here. And hobby lobby offers a coupon (I think they still do) that is 40% off one item. This brings the price down considerably.

There are also some other neat things you can grab while you are at hobby lobby. The other most important one would be a Airbrush cleaning pot Again this is something you could get at Hobby Lobby and use your fancy coupon on the next day.

I hope this all helps if you have any other questions feel free to ask.
