I bought a 5-pack from Amazon but there's also a single piece. It's called Mic-lock.

But I stopped using it. I was able to download an app for Android and change the source of the sound to the internal mic. Plugged in Mic-lock and internal mic was still receiving sound. So it would only work for stupid malware and it's just not worth the inconvenience, imo. Maybe it's different for iphones if Apple doesn't allow changing the sound source. Dunno.

It's done in software. The kind of people buying gadgets that act as headphones for this purpose seem to trust the OS.

Edit: here's a real device that does that.

Questi vanno bene a livello artigianale, altrimenti c'è https://www.amazon.com/Mic-Lock-Blocks-Hacking-Computers-Tablets/dp/B01LPQJGA2, oppure ancora si possono fabbricare in casa con vecchie cuffie, come ho fatto io

My co workers now use these and these. I'm not 100% sure about the MicLock myself (seems overridable with software) but the camera shutter is solid so no need for pulling ribbon cables.

Covering a microphone will do very little. It will also severely restrict your ability to actually use the phone as an actual phone if you do a good enough job of blocking sound from being picked up by the microphone.

A good solution is a mic disabling headphone jack device. It plugs into your headphone jack and sends a signal to the phone telling it that you are using a handsfree device so that the on-board mic is disabled. The device has no mic and so there is no audio being received, and yet the phone thinks that the handsfree kit is working.

I had the same issue, being served ads for products I never ever searched for and only mentioned in conversations. So I bought a pack of microphone blockers on Amazon. When plugged in, they block microphone access but your phone still rings for incoming calls. Highly recommended: https://www.amazon.com/Mic-Lock-Microphone-Blocker-Pack-Surveillance/dp/B01LPQJGA2

As mentioned earlier, camera covering doesn’t hurt but also doesn’t matter much. But mic blocking, definitely a benefit. This product works well for me.

End users cannot disable the built-in microphone if there is no jack to plug in an aux (or fake - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LPQJGA2) mic. I believe it's all about Apple, Google, Facebook, etc listening in on your personal life.
