400 usd seems like a lot for a used 64gb sp1. Even amazon has used 128gb sp1's for less than 500.

The regular Surface (non-pro) is a Windows RT device. It runs on an ARM processor and will NOT run x86-compiled programs (like anything for your normal windows computer) or unsigned programs that are compiled to ARM. You would only be able to use the Windows Store.

The Surface Pro runs Windows 8.1 on an x86 (intel) architecture. It will run any traditional Windows programs (including Steam and Steam games). The SP1 comes with 4gb of ram and an i5 processor (HD4000 integrated graphics). This is enough to play SC2 comfortably in 1v1, and would handle the games you're talking about fine.

The Battery Keyboard (if you can find one) is a keyboard case with a battery in it. It roughly doubles the weight and thickness of the tablet, but adds a significant amount of battery life (6-8 hours of normal non-gaming use).

If you're interested in looking at used SP1s, here is a link. You can get them for sub-500 (even sub 400!) barring the keyboard case, which will push the price up a bit. If you're willing to spend more, the SP2 is much nicer. Slightly lighter, better processor (and HD4400 integrated graphics), and better base battery life, but comes at a raise in price.

Just keep trying and practicing. It's kind of like riding a bike: you either learn at the end or you trash your bike. Either way though, your knees are going to be bloody.

Also, you don't need to use Photoshop, just go with whatever you're most comfortable with. I personally prefer Krita which is open source and more focused on drawing.

I'm not a professional artist (or even a particularly good one), but I am an indie game developer (programmer) so what I know about drawing I've learned out of sheer necessity. My preferred method of digital drawing is on my Surface Pro because beyond having a full digitizer, it also has a 1080p display. It's meant to be a laptop replacement rather than a drawing tablet though, so if you just want a tablet for drawing with a screen, I'm sure you can find hundreds of cheaper alternatives.

Drawing technique though I can't really help you with other than that line about riding a bike. Also, if you want to draw a face, start with a ball and a plus in the direction you want it to look, like this thing.

.... good luck

Do you think that this Microsoft Surface Pro could play VIII on Steam fine with the different community mods? I'm trying to find a screen&controller setup, since I've really enjoyed that with the Switch. Having a really portable screen without a keyboard in between makes a difference.

Maybe get a GDP Win someday, but I'm thinking not right now.

  1. Surface Pro Tablet at just over $1,000. I used to have a $2,500+ telescope, but I bought it.
  2. I want it so I don't have to lug my giant 17" laptop to school or out when I do astrophotography. An iPad wont do since the astrophotography software runs on windows.
  3. Yes. I'm constantly flip flopping between getting a surface pro style windows table or an ultrabook.
