Its reviews have been crap as of late, but I haven't had any problems. Was a bit of a pain to get set up how I wanted (default language was Russian), but now it just does its thing.
Holds about 10 hours of footage, dumps the oldest clip when the new one writes. Powers on with the car, I ran the power cable up my headliner, through the door seal and behind the glove box to one of my power ports. Can't even see it, no splicing necessary (though you could tap into a 5v line if you have power to the rearview mirror).
I've seen some shit in the few months I've had it. Several accidents (involving other vehicles), several near misses with cyclists and pedestrians being morons. I strongly believe every driver should have one for their own protection.

The F500L works well enough and is a highly popular choice. I only spent around $110 with shipping. Which I think is highly worthwhile investment. The only caveat is the power cable that came with it caused me a lot of radio interference. I got another power cable and it works much better now. It is a DC plug to mini usb so it was not hard to find a different replacement. (I am using one from a garmin gps, but I'm sure you could get one at bestbuy).
I've been using the F500L, bought at Amazon for $100, for over a year now. I've had great results. I see it's $89 now.

That's a pretty decent one that I own. The only problem is that some of the vendors sell fakes. I ordered from Wisedeal and they sent a real one. Can't personally vouch for any of the others, but check the reviews to be sure before buying.
