I got this one for $32 since it came with an SSR, the temp probe is useless for this application as it only goes up to 400 so I got a different one. This model has the same functionality.
Are you handy with an arduino and soldering and stuff? You can build one. The parts in that kit can be had for much cheaper, I think. Or even if you're not that handy, it's doable. Maybe add some kind of mixer/impeller to get the water to be a more uniform temp.
That said, the Anova has been a great value for me, I use it all the time, and their customer service is awesome.
