There's no right or wrong way to go about starting a collection.

First things first, you've gotta figure out what kind of stamp you want to collect. If you decide to just collect anything and everything, things can get unwieldy very quickly, so I recommend finding a niche sooner or later. One of the easiest to get into (if you're in the States, anyway) is United States stamps. You already have a fairly decent spread in the pictures you provided, so I'd recommend going that route.

Next, you'll need some way to display your stamps. The album you have should work for the time being, but if you want to expand it into newer territory at all, something else may be in store. You can do anything with this from taking a three-ring binder and a few pages of printer paper with a grid printed on them to a purpose-made album. There are even some pages out there that have slots built into the page so that you don't have to hinge your stamps.Personally, I use Mystic Stamp Company's Heirloom album for my American collection, because it has printed pictures that depict a spot for nearly every stamp ever printed by the United States, along with other pertinent info like perforations, distinguishing marks, Scott Catalogue numbers, etcetera.

Once you have that, you'll need a way to keep your stamps in your album. The cheapest method to doing this is with a bag of hinges. This is hardly optimal, as this devalues a stamp in many peoples' minds, but you can get about 5,000 of them for less than fifteen bucks, and most stamps you'll run across aren't so valuable that hinging them would be really detrimental. Stamp Mounts are better, since they don't damage the stamp, but are also more expensive.

Once you have these things, you can go about acquiring more stamps. You can find grab-bags of large numbers of them in many places, including eBay, some hobby shops, and garage sales. If you want more specific stamps, there are numerous dealers about to choose from. You can remove stamps from envelopes by soaking them off in a bowl of water (aside from a lot of modern self-adhesive stamps, but that's a different story). Let family and friends know of your hobby, and see if they'll hang onto any stamps they may have laying around on old envelopes or what have you.

This is some stuff that should set you on your way to getting into the hobby. If you decide that it's your cup of tea, then there are many, many more things to get into.
