Correct answer. Additionally:
You can also use a wireless Xbox 360 controller provided that you have a receiver: http://www.amazon.com/Promotion-wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Compatible-Controller/dp/B00BV72X1U/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1394561950&sr=8-4&keywords=360+usb+receiver
The Xbox One controller will (supposedly) be natively supported in Windows at some point in the coming months, just like the Xbox 360 controller.
do you already have a 360 with a wireless controller? If so, grab one of these. Cheaper than any controller out there and works like a charm.
Just go on Amazon, there's dozens for like $10 each.

MS makes one for Xbox One controllers. I might just get that since I have 3 Xbox One controllers. It's a bit more expensive at $24.

I have a steam link (which is fantastic btw) hooked up to my living room TV.
To this I have a 360 controller dongle which works fine.
A PlayStation 4 controller can also be hooked up to the steam link without a dongle.
I just bought the game for PC yesterday. Aerials are very tough using keyboard (I experimented making forward and pitch different keys, but that was even harder). I read using a game controller makes things easier, so I wanted to give that a try.
I bought this adapter which supposedly will allow me to connect my Xbox 360 wireless control to the PC. Will this do the trick?
Yup, THE wireless receiver. The same kind that lets you use wireless controllers with Windows. Like this one
try it on another pc, it seems like maybe a hardware malfunction maybe replace the receiver (http://www.amazon.com/wireless-Gaming-Receiverfor-Xbox-360-Controller/dp/B00BV72X1U/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1464227002&sr=8-2&keywords=xbox+wireless+adapter) im sorry im not really much help but im 90% sure it may be just hardware failure.
