I just put my phone in the pocket of my shorts, but I run in longer basketball style shorts. With short running shorts you might want an armband or waist band. And I'm with you, I love running with music for fast runs, and podcasts for long training runs.
Edit: And for the love of god, I wish people would just agree that some people like music while running, and some don't. Not everything needs to be a freaking competition to see who can convert more people to their side...
I rarely use my armband anymore, instead favoring my Nathan Shadow Pack. It's just less hassle than the arm band.
