The SuperZero 2.1 is a true high-end mini-monitor that builds on the merits of its predecessors through the addition of a 2nd order crossover and a newly revised wooferThe SuperZero 2.1 is small speaker, at just 9" tall x 5" wide x 5.5" deep, that achieves its lifelike mid-range and high frequencies through acoustic suspension technologyThis compact, well-braced cabinet coated with a beautiful black gloss laminate is designed to be inherently strong and stout in order to avoid the unwanted vibrations that afflict the mid-range performance of other speakers on the marketThese small differences significantly lower distortion, improve power handling, and make the SuperZero 2.1 sound much bigger than its sizeWith easy wall/ceiling mounting options available, the SuperZero 2.1 complements the SS 10 subwoofer perfectly in creating an affordable yet high-end stereo or surround sound system
NHT SuperZero 2.1, $58/each
These excellent speakers are 5" x 5.5" x 9", but require a subwoofer (NHT claims low end of 85 Hz at -3db). Had a pair with an inexpensive Dayton SUB-800 subwoofer.
If doing Atmos, you want to use monopoles for surrounds. Just get 4 of these, which work great for surrounds and look good in gloss black https://www.amazon.com/NHT-SuperZero-2-1-Mini-Monitor-Speaker/dp/B00CKNOYWK/
For my birthday I got my first record player. Its a nostalgy peggy sue. Here is a link to what it is https://www.auna-multimedia.co.uk/Home-Audio/Record-Players/Suitcase-Record-Players/Nostalgy-by-auna-Peggy-Sue-Retro-Record-Player-LP-USB-AUX-White-Rose-Gold-Look.html
Anyway, the speakers that come installed in it are kinda meh and some of the records I have do not sound that great coming out of them.
I took my records to a friends house who has a really nice set up and his record player, through some sort of means, ends up coming out of a single bookshelf speaker. His set up makes every record he plays sound amazing.
So he recommended picking up a bookshelf speaker. This is what I got https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CKNOYWK/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza
The back of the speaker has 2 banana plug ports ( a positive and negative). The back of my record player has an output for RCA cables. So what am I missing or how to I hook up my record player to the speaker? I do not know much about electronics.

I've been running NHT SuperZero 2.1 mini monitor speakers as my .2(front highs). They sound good and get the job done for me. Right now they are $67 each. I have them on mounts too pointed directly at my MLP.

NHT SuperZero 2.1s! Can be had for $130 a pair right now.

Do it!
Could always spend <$50 to mount the tv a bit higher.
Without having to mount the tv, maybe these bookshelves (2 orders, almost $200 total) with their matching center ($130), so almost $330 total.
The Wavecrest do sound good, they have a connection to Ascend, and to me are comparable to KEF Q100, I have tried them both.
I forgot about these NHT SuperZero 2.1 Mini-Monitor too, $120 pair.
I have installed 4 NHT Superzero 2.1 speakers as surrounds on my 7.2 system. They do not go that low, but are really, really good speakers. They are selling for $63.43 ea. at Amazon. LINK
What would be a good amp to power these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00CKNOYWK/ref=cm_cr_arp_mb_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8
With the source being a 2010 MacBook Pro?
No more than $100, preferably less
I would go the MB42X with a cheap amp and just forego the sub for now. It gives you an upgrade path without being locked in.
People telling you it doesn't have good bass are comparing to actual speakers, and not tiny crappy computer speakers like the Promedia 2.1. I have some NHT SuperZero's that are basically designed to not have any bass (you're supposed to use them with a sub), and they still have more bass than those crappy 2.1 computer speakers.
The tiny sub that comes with the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 isn't gonna do much for you.
These NHT have been on sale under $60 each. They are sealed so maybe not as much bass as your Daytons.

Small speakers with good audio for your PC? Might I recommend NHT SuperZeros, I just got a pair myself for using on my PC, upgrading from an RC Micro kit.
It's 100$ a pair. So 200$ for a stereo setup and paired with a half-decent subwoofer, you can have quite the little system brewing.

As said below, you will need an AVR or amp though.
What's great about the SZ is their size...really it's kind of amazing. It's like half-way between small Sat speakers and full bookshelf speakers, and yet has the quality of most full size bookshelf speakers. SuperOnes are their upgraded brothers, with a bigger frequency range, but 50$ more ea, and slightly larger(Still not as large as full size bookshelf though, they fit on desks nicely.)
I use the NHT SuperZero's as my surround speakers. They work great and would match the SVS. https://www.amazon.com/NHT-SuperZero-2-1-Mini-Monitor-Speaker/dp/B00CKNOYWK
If you've got the room, you could step up to the NHT SuperOne's for even more output- https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LJX4HCY/ref=sspa_dk_detail_0?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B00LJX4HCY&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=a54d13fc-b8a1-4ce8-b285-d77489a09cf6&pf_rd_r=0N5NSP6D7FK8TDZ6695Y&pd_rd_wg=Spz7Y&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&pd_rd_w=1jx7X&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pd_rd_r=01391427-af81-11e8-861c-cd06ea1130b1
Take a look at the NHT Super Zero. I did a 5.1 setup with four Super Zero's, a Super Center, and a SS10 sub for my gaming computer and I'm really happy with them. I listen to music on them when I work from home and they are very clear and neutral. Size is good for placing them on the desk. You will want to add a sub at some point as any of the speakers are going to be limited on how low they can go. You can get them on Amazon so they are easy to return if you aren't happy with them. A step up would be the SuperOne. It gets you a 6.5" driver instead of the 4.5", but they are much bigger so you will need room for them.

With a bit bigger budget you would still want that receiver. Bump the subwoofer up to the SVS PB-1000 (most likely). And end up with a lot of different speaker options to consider.
