Yeah that's what I mean - all I want is the controller for my Wii.
Try and pick up a nes classic controller to go with it as they were sold separately and will be a nice extra if you add nes Games later and he wanted to use the NES controller.

Apples and oranges. A 2DS has a high potential for other purchases beyond the the device (further games, accessories, downloads). A Hypothetical miniGB would be one-and-done.
> TV hookups would be optional
Didn't you just say cost to build it wouldn't be an issue? Adding this feature to a device that already has a screen that is a one and done device would be quite a jump from that of an NES/SNES mini that has a single output.
> could be done through local wireless connectivity
Still saying cost to produce wouldn't be an issue? Already it sounds like way more than it's worth for nostalgia sake.
> I actually think the N64 Classic will be a harder sell because you'd need to buy at least two extra controllers
You mean no one would be willing to buy additional official nintendo controllers like these? Honestly, the N64 assuming it happens, can just as easily come with 2 controllers (which is plenty for a solid 64 experience). Hard sell? Really? Let's be honest. You (and everyone else on this forum) would buy 2 additional controllers without thinking twice, some would even buy 3 more... at least.
Shit, glad I grabbed mine when I did, two days ago. It's $59.99 now.
Hmmm...you might look around a bit and try to score a couple of NES Classic controllers (https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Classic-Mini-Entertainment-System-Controller/dp/B01IH5O186/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1538599636&sr=8-3&keywords=nes+classic+controller&dpID=514d3-f2vgL&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch) , it seems like people are starting to find them easier now.
Then, you could just take the button pads out of those (or even the whole shell and buttons themselves too) and drop them into your regular NES controllers.
It's too bad nobody seems to make a wiimote port to NES port adapter, otherwise you could just use the actual Classic controllers on your NES (of course that would add to cost).
I bought one from world wide distributors on Amazon. It is a legit OEM controller. The only thing is I had to pay $59.99 for it which sucked. https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B01IH5O186/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all
the NES mini controllers are plentiful on Ebay and Amazon and work great
