Didn't see it anywhere in the comments so I thought I'd make it easy for anyone interested.

I believe there are third-party kickstands, this one in particular will be coming out soon, and should be a bit more sturdy than the original, plus it'll be eligible for free shipping.

On the other hand, if you're prone to losing them, buying two of the official ones at once will at least make the shipping costs more efficient.

Nyko has this slated for late October. The logo and color disparity both me, but I like the fact that it's metal -- looks a fair bit sturdier than the standard model, and is only $5. Could be worth a shot.

There's a photo in the reviews that will show you what happens. I'd take a photo myself but I did a fairly tedious temporary fix that would require me to remove in order to take a pic (basically cutting a very tiny piece of tape and covering the deformed plastic until there's a tight hold on the stand).

The kickstand would pop off maybe 80% of the time until you get it right. Until then you're constantly reapplying the stand. This repeated action will deform the plastic. Unlike the OEM stand where first try is usually the only try.

3. 4 kids and 2 dogs here, so I do know! So I found a piece of metal on the floor one day and couldn’t figure out for the life of me what it belonged to, so threw it away. Turns out it was the grate cover for the hole next to where you insert the game cartridge.
   
   
4. I bought this discontinued Nyko Kickstand to improve sturdiness, but it actually stretched the size of the peg holes, and didn’t really work that much better, and now the original kickstand doesn’t work in the stretched holes anymore. Just do your homework and read reviews, and you’ll be fine.

This is the best I've been able to find, however I can't find it much cheaper.
