> Four cores at one GHz is now low power?

yes. Welcome to moore's law. 8 cores at 2 Ghz is now High Power in the mobile ARM world.

>The fact of the matter is if it shipped with 4gb of ram then it could run Gitlab swimmingly. Its "power" is not the issue at all.

Have you looked at RAM prices lately? including 4 gb would increase the price of the Pi by a drastic amount.

>But you get to the point where you're arguing that "high powered stuff" needs to be run on high grade x86 stuff, but small hardware projects can be easily done on a esp chip.... What do you want an rpi for then anymore? You've argued it out a use case. Why do that? There's plenty of stuff which can run on a 1ghz multi core machine. It's just a lot of it wants more ram nowadays.

Then buy yourself a nice Odroid XU4. At least you'll have 2 GB of RAM and plenty of processing power to boot.

Yes, but not at those prices. I would suggest the following from Ameridroid:

Something like this?

I have not purchased any hardware yet so I can certainly go this route over a Rasberry Pi.

I am new to the HA side of the automation stuff but am pretty tech savvy once I dive in. I have over 20 years in the electrical field, I'm doing a pretty major renovation on our house right now, doing pretty much a complete rewire of all electric and low voltage. Going with HA and Z-wave throughout. Switches, door/motion/water sensors, door locks, garage door, remote water main shutoff.....the list keeps growing....;-)

also an sd card and ac adapter for the odroid.

was also planning on getting new buttons and joysticks and using 2 usb controllers. is this the preferred method or using that IDE wire harness better way to go?

also, this odroid good or is there a better one?
