I used the Osprey Radial 34 for the last two years. It has been fantastic. The sternum strap really helped with weight support, and there are so many pockets for your stuff and your son's. It's super comfortable, and I highly recommend it.
I used to rock a Timbuk2 messenger, but it killed my neck and shoulders with the singular strap.
