You can't RetroPie N64 well, but you can PSX, if fact you can use tweaks and hacks to make it look better. Not only that, but you can use your existing [DualShock Controllers] (https://www.amazon.com/Controller-Joystick-Converter-Compatible-Playstation-2/dp/B00FBM3JEG/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_147_tr_t_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=X4G9Z09JBHD6657BBZY9) or just use you PS3 controllers via bluetooth.

A RetroPie 3 B+ build will set you back less than $50 if you already have controllers.

What software are you using?

If StepMania then this is what I used.

Simple and effective.

I used the drivers and instructions found here to set it all up. https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Controller:DualShock_2

Then in StepMania under Controls/Advanced Controls you set "Axis Fix" to "yes".

A 3b+ (or even a 2) will play PS1 games just fine, as long as you're not using a GL plugin to render the visuals at a higher resolution. I'd rather have my PS1 games looking "stock" than using some ridiculous upscaling anyway, myself...

GameCube, though, is a different story. And also, N64 games tend to take more power than PS1; a Pi will run quite a few N64 games well enough to be playable, but it's a bit hit-or-miss as far as framerate goes. Probably best to use a more powerful computer anyway, /u/CommonGap.

As far as controllers go, it might be better to just use a wired 360 controller for everything; it plugs into USB, so no need for adapters, its face buttons are laid out very similarly to the SNES, it has joysticks so it'll work fine for PS1 and PS2 (if your system is powerful enough to run PCSX2), the right stick can be mapped to the N64's C buttons similar to the C-stick on the GameCube, etc. Alternatively, there are some great Logitech pads available for fairly cheap online; I've never had any problems with my Rumblepad 2 or Gamepad F310. Or you could get one of these adapters to take advantage of a PS1/PS2 controller's superior d-pad...

[This] (https://www.amazon.com/Controller-Joystick-Converter-Compatible-Playstation-2/dp/B00FBM3JEG/ref=sr_1_3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1511387469&sr=1-3&keywords=ps2+usb+adapter) is the one I've used in the past and it works perfectly. Be aware that you could run into potential issues when using that "dual" PS2 adapter as it's using one USB port for two controllers; meaning there might need to be specific driver support to get it working correctly... I'm not positive though, I just thought I'd throw that out there.

Being 100% honest, those adapters never seemed to work, I got 4 deep before I went with this.

If you're on a budget I'd recommend the old ps2 controllers. It might be a bit dodgey but CEX does them for £10 and you can get an adapter for £5.

That's what the pad with the red dots is. It's the inside of one of these

I'm going to solder the controller wires to that pad (where it would normally plug unto the controller port) then solder the usb cable that came with 1 of the 2 PSC controllers to the other end of the pad, then stuff all of that inside the PS1 controller shell.

I use this one: https://www.amazon.com/Controller-Joystick-Converter-Compatible-Playstation-2/dp/B00FBM3JEG/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?keywords=ps2+to+pc+controller+adapter&qid=1574809838&sr=8-1

I use this with my red SG. I do not have any complaints other than I cannot use the whammy bar or tilt. For $10 its worth at least trying. As far as latency goes I do not have much of an issue, but I do not play competitively, I'm only average in an expert level, no crazy charts.

I got my adapter for $14 from amazon.

Try this: https://imgur.com/gallery/62Ygt8m It does have a wire, it just has the standard PS2 jack at the end of it. I think you'd need something like this to connect it to PC: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FBM3JEG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_iSJnDbN6VC9VT
