This is a workbook you could go through on your own. It's aimed at teens, but the exercises and worksheets would likely still be helpful and at least give you a jumping off point for dealing with how you feel about yourself.

There is also this workbook focussed on trauma and PTSD and this one with a focus on coping skills for PTSD. Honestly, on my own, I'd probably start with the first one I linked to ease into things and then get one of these ones.

Doing it on your own isn't the best way to do things, but it's not impossible, especially with these types of tools. Having a tool - some sort of workbook or guide - is super important though. If you knew how to get over it all on your own with no outside help, you would have done it already, right?

These likely won't be enough to completely heal and move forward on your own, but they will help you get to a better spot than where you are right now.

Maybe there's some self-help book/workbook, written by someone serious in that field of therapy, and recommended by serious people on the field, that have a close fit to your problems.

An alternative approach may be to find a therapy support group. They might be cheaper and fit your budget.

Maybe check out some of these books which could help her work through the process that is provided in therapy in a self-guided way. What I would recommend is that she set aside an hour or two a week to devote to this to keep herself consistent, but not overwhelmed by over-reading:

the PTSD sourcebook

Then these are not workbooks - but might help provide her insight and healing:

The death of a loved one can be really shocking to a person's system, especially someone as important as your Dad.

I use to have the same symptoms too, and sleep paralysis can be a really scary experience.

Here are some things that helped me;

  1. I started meditating. This released a lot of the pent up energy in a way that was really healthy,
  2. Kundalini Yoga. It's about releasing stuff and connecting with God. It really helped me to get balanced and center.
  3. Vipassana - www.vipassana.org It might be something to look into later on. It's a free ten day meditation but it's really intense.
  4. Cognitive Therapy - Great for releasing the symptoms of PTSD.
