So, this is what i'm doing/building. I started with an STC1000 but did not build it with a relay and therefore burned up the heat output side. Im replacing it with the grainfather connect controller which will be here tomorrow.

I use a Still Spirits T500 Boiler which is the same as the grainfather, and use a pump to recirculate the water, since the boiler will scorch the bottom. I use BIAB but honestly the principle is the same. If you want to use a mash tun you can simply recirculate like a RIMS system.

However, you will need a couple of things.

  1. The grainfather temperature probe is not water proof, so you'll need to put this in a thermowell.

  2. You will need a total of two IEC to Edison female adapter cables in order to output the power to a non grainfather connector. I suppose could make your own, but here is the cable which is pretty cheap. https://www.amazon.com/Parts-Express-Edison-Female-Adapter/dp/B0015V1GXS

good luck, i'll be posting mine on friday once I get through the trial run.

I have a grainfather and although it costs more, I am quite happy.

Once you trust what you are doing , with the bluetooth, you don't have to babysit it. I see the Clawhammer for 120 is $200, the Grainfather Connect alone is $150. You will need one ac cords that I used to call an IBM , https://www.amazon.com/Parts-Express-Edison-Female-Adapter/dp/B0015V1GXS With this you can run your own recipes. WITH the timer functions. :)

If you are going for larger than 5gal. The Grainfather controller is not a viable option. UNLESS you use the heat outlet to power a relay to hadle a isolated 240v line to your element. YMMV and my advice is worth exactly what you paid for it. I just like gadgets. :)

As others have said, USB is the wrong voltage AND will not supply enough amperage for 15m were you to order 5v strips.

I believe when you say computer power cable you are referring to a female IEC end at the projector? You could use an adaptor like this to plug in the included power supply: https://www.amazon.com/Parts-Express-Edison-Female-Adapter/dp/B0015V1GXS
