This case is pretty great. It can really protect the Vita. That, and it can hold eight games and two memory cards.

I've had similar issues with a 32GB card. Lost around 30 hours of progress in SAO: Hollow Fragment as well as all my progress in Gravity Rush, WipeOut, and several other games. I've since started backing up games to the cloud, but it's disheartening when you lose so much progress.
As far as cases go, I use one of the hard shell cases with swappable art inserts Gamestop sold a few years ago for the OLED Vita. It has eight spots for Vita game carts and two spots for memory cards, which is pretty neat.

This is the case that I have. I adore it, and I scanned in one of the designs they give you and made it all Dark Souls. Holds a decent amount of cartridges, a couple of memory cards, and is a solid exterior.
I just picked one up after looking at the pictures. I have this case already, but it looks pretty clunky when I carry it around.
The differences between the two would obviously be the level of protection and overall style.

Honestly I don't remember. I think it's the official one from Sony. It has the PS logo and the Vita logo on it. Here are some pics:
