I liked this case when my collection fit inside (and still use it for some extra supplies). Being paranoid about my ships I used some Pick N Pluck foam for a few ships to help wedge them into the slots. As for the range ruler, I used a row in the upper tray for that and all the other maneuver templates.

Like I said it turned out to be way more than I needed, if you wanted to save yourself $5 or so you should be able to buy a smaller set (but check the dimensions just to be safe).
