There is a professionally filmed recording (i.e. Legal, not a bootleg) of the final Broadway performance that you can buy on amazon. It's not the original cast, but it's still really good.

I definitely recommend this for a first viewing. After that, try the movie if you're so inclined. I personally don't like it all that much, but it's not awful. The upside is that is has most of the original Broadway cast.

This doesn’t have the OBC, but it is the full theatrical production. It does have Tracie Thoms (reprising Joanne from the movie), Eden Espinosa (as Maureen, she’s a professional Idina Menzel replacement), and Renee Elise Goldsberry (as Mimi, OBC Angelica from Hamilton).

One of my favorite movies is probably something you wouldn't be expecting, but it is Rent: Filmed Live of Broadway (2008). I just love the musical and to be able to watch the whole thing (never got to see it on Broadway) when ever I want, as much as I want, would be amazing. The story is one that you have to see to truly understand. There is now possible way that I could explain how I feel about RENT. It is just a musical that I really love the music and story of, and I really want to see the whole thing. I never got to see the musical live because it left Broadway long before I got into musicals. I wish for the day where I can see this whole master piece in all its glory. It is not really a movie (more of a live concert DVD) but I still love/want it! I don't know if you are actually shipping out real copies of the movies, or online versions. If you would be king enough to ship out actual DVDs, here is the link. (It is also on my wishlist)
