I can't remember where I saw it, but there is a thread somewhere comparing a bunch of different cameras from a bunch of different manufacturers. The thing that stuck out was how different some of them were, even though they had similar, or in some cases identical specifications. Things like fov and resolution rarely matched up with the spec.

This is the camera I currently have in my cart, I'll do some more research before pulling the trigger, but based on that thread, this seems to be the best bang for the buck right now (that fits my current needs)

I have a 4-pack of Reolink R410-S cameras. They're PoE (Power Over Ethernet) wired on my network. Each camera also has a 16gb memory card and acts as its own DVR. There's an interactive app that can load/control the camera's via uPNP - so they work locally or remotely without any cloud involvement. So far, very pleased.

One of the current models is here - you'll need to add a memory card for recording - but it'll get audio and video in high res.

i don't think your quality issue is with the processing in the camera, you're just starting with a low res feed.

you probably would want something like 4 or 5MP.

reolink are ridiculously cheap and somehow still have decent reviews, although i've heard people here recommending dahua instead. i usually use hikvision equipment, but they are 2x the price of reolink.

either way, the larger the lens, the more zoomy the camera. so you may get better use from a 4mm or 6mm, so you can place the camera further from the hive. also, any camera you pick should have options to how you want to encode the video for transmission, so there will be options for more or less compression done by the camera itself.

man, i'd love to have some bees :)

Yes, I'm doing direct to disk recording. Here are the cameras I'm using:

I'm using a Dell Optiplex i7, 12GB Ram, etc.

I've messed around with the FPS, but I read that BI will always auto- adjust it upwards so it's worthless to set the limit.

I don't see an option to change my resolution though, where is that located? I guess I was just surprised that changing from Direct to Disk recording didn't give me that reduction like everyone says. I changed it and then restarted, literally no change.
