Nothing really good with that shape for under $40. Keep your eye out for sales too. The Roccat LUA goes down to $25 a lot.

I suggest a cheap gaming mouse for the start of your PC gaming "career" you just don't know yet what you want/need from your mouse and this is something only you can figure out by playing.
I would look for something cheap, simple, but high quality.

maybe something like this:

I've been using a Roccat Lua for around 3 years now. Has never broken and the mouse wheel feels great.

Do you like that mouse? How good it's tracking on your desk? Is it this?

Simple and excellently performing gaming mouse for $30. And blue lights.

I am currently using a Roccat Lua and I love the thing.

For a lower price mouse, it is the best mouse I have ever used. Its sturdy, attractive, the plastic feels nice, has on the fly sensitivity changing via a 4th button, and the clicks feel good and solid. I bought mine on sale for $20, and I would do it again.

It isn't wireless though, but like you said you are looking for a solid usable pointing device, and I have not seen one that even comes close to the LUA in the same price range.

I'd consider Roccat Lua at $19.99 as an alternative. It has less buttons but uses the same Avago 3090 sensor.

I really like the minimal Roccat Lua However, there are no buttons on the side. You can also get it refurbished for $5 less.

Well, I'm rather happy with my Roccat Lua which is under $40.

Some might say there aren't enough buttons but I've never felt like I need more.

God knows if it's in your price range, but my Roccat Kova[+] Does the job nicely, but its a bit higher in price. Can certainly recommend the brand however.

Mouse I use for CS, I play with it at 500 dpi, 2.14 in game and it the best mouse i've ever had. So light it allows you to quickly pick up and spin around even with low sense. It has a setting for 200 dpi, 500, 1000, 1250, 1500, 1750 and 2000. ONLY MOUSE I WILL EVER USE AND ITS CHEAP!!

There's this but it doesn't have have side buttons, if you need them.

There's also this. Kinda ugly, but it's a decent price.

is there anything cheaper? seems pretty unnessecary to spend 120$ on a mouse..every expensive mouse ive tried has been complete trash and starts malfunctioning within 2 months meanwhile ive had my 20$ mouse for 6+ months and it works fine

Roccat Lua is quite cheap and also very quiet. Like the quietest mouse i have ever used. Scroll wheel is almost inaudible.

But if you realy need to use the pc when you little guy is there sleeping, maybe trying to map the left mouse button to a key (scroll lock for example) on your keyboard. I've used this method successfuly for a long time, since most keyboard don't do any sounds when gently pressing keys. But good only for web browsing and light stuff.
