I'm gay so I keep something like one of these in the pantry
After breaking one too many paint bottles using pliers (Oh look, everything is yellow now ಠ_ಠ), I found that one of these style strap wrenches works much better for opening stuck lids since it squeezes equally around the lid rather than at two points. I got a set of two at a local dollar store for a couple of bucks and keep one at my modeling bench and one in the kitchen.
Rubber Strap Wrenches work really well too.
For those who were wondering what this is.
How about a plumbers strap wrench
The locking mechanism on my magneto got stuck a few days ago, so I went to Home Depot and picked up a rubber strap wrench, which did the trick in like 2 seconds. This was after trying the hot water thing, and WD-40. They are found many many places.
You can also try punching the end cap with two screw drivers on opposite sides of the center and then turning it (like how a slotted screw works).
Also you can try to spray it with brake clean then you a pair of leather gloves and you might have enough friction to get it off.
There is a bunch of different names and brands. But those rubber strap wrenches work great and don't do any damage.

This problem can be eliminated by insuring the threads on copper, brass and aluminum mods are lubricated or protected from oxidation.
