And yet tons of previous netbooks (just as small if not smaller) tended to have regular, although small, keyboards.

Samsung N130 10.39 × 7.30 × 1.12 inches

Samsung NC10 10.28 × 7.28 × 1.18 inches

The the ultrabooks come along:

Samsung Series 5 13.10 x 9 x 0.82 inches

Samsung Series 9 12.30 x 8.60 x 0.50 inches

Now, I really can't bag on Samsung for this though. Every ultrabook manufacturer has pretty much copied the Macbook Air.

I completely agree with most people in this thread. Get a small Laptop, not just screen size wise, but also pay attention to the actually weight. You will have to carry the laptop around probably most of the day, so pick something with good battery life (possibly with a removable power brick - as in have a backup power brick, that way you dont have to take the cable with you all the time).

I actually had a 15" gaming laptop that I carried around everywhere. It was big, heavy and completely unpractical. I realized pretty fast I wasn't gaming on it, just doing presentations, taking notes, watching movies and shows. I sold my big laptop and went for a really small entry-level Asus Ultrabook with a 13" screen and low weight/size form-factor. I decided between these 3:

[Asus Vivobook X202 Laptop] (http://www.amazon.com/VivoBook-X202E-DH31T-11-6-Inch-Touch-Laptop/dp/B009F1I1C4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1371391929&sr=8-1&keywords=vivobook)

[Asus Vivobook S400 Ultrabook] (http://www.amazon.com/VivoBook-S400CA-DH51T-14-Inch-Touch-Ultrabook/dp/B009F1JL5A/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1371391929&sr=8-2&keywords=vivobook)

[Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook] (http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Series-NP530U4C-A01US-14-Inch-Ultrabook/dp/B0082PZ0LO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1371391951&sr=8-1&keywords=samsung+ultrabook+series+5)

I eventually went with the Vivobook S400. I had the Samsung S5 and the first unit was broken on delivery, the second developed pixel errors within a month of using it. I stuck with the Asus. It has a removable power brick and doesn't have too much bloatware on it. I like it very much for my use. But the monitor problems I had with the Samsung could be coincidence. The Asus has a very glossy monitor, if you aren't into that the Samsung should be better.

Good luck and alot of fun at USC mate.
