3.0 works with a 2.0 USB port, and 2.0 works with USB 3.0 ports.

I would recommend a 2.0 usb I believe they take less to power or atleast mine did. I had a 3.0 usb and it would boot into autobleem 25% of the time.

I use one of these now. I have purchased several and they all work. I don’t even have to make sure everything is unplugged.

Ya, I installed via usb. I used a pretty standard USB 2.0 device:

and put the iso on the USB using rufus:

and did not touch the BIOS at all.
I am happy to answer any other questions if they are helpful as I find this to be a great machine to run linux on (at least for my purposes) and don't want you to give up on it too soon!

Yep, Sandisk's usb 2.0 flash drives have the same enclosure design.

I don't recommend the Ultra Fit. I burned one up with my Chromebook. Heat has nowhere to go. I actually have better luck with the 2.0 USB Sandisk drives. I'm using one of these right now on my Toshiba Chromebook running Ubuntu 16.04:

cheap and works great.

I found that drive in a drawer full of old ones I had laying around and it worked. I can not say if this particular one will 100% work or not since it is probably using newer parts internally.

I'll add to what everyone else here is saying... don't do it!

Get one of these... and one of these.

I'm sure other USB hub models work, but this one works flawlessly for me. So does the USB drive. The price of those two items is actually cheaper than one of those TrueBlue sticks.

Also, the only 'tech' info you need to know is how to copy files to a USB stick using a file explorer. You definitely don't need a degree in computer science to do it! If you're scared to ruin your console by hacking it yourself, use AutoBleem instead of Bleemsync. It doesn't copy any files to your console.

I'm using a Sandisk Cruzer Glide 32GB, which is on the compatability list.

Homebrew stuff is on an SD card. Using homebrew channel v 1.1.2, USBLoaderGX v 3.0 r1262 and Wii Flow v 4.2.1

If you use a memory stick (Flash USB memory stick like this). You just plug it in one of the WiiU's usb ports and you're good to go.

If you want a Harddrive like I linked above for more storage, you need both power and data usb ports feeding in to the drive, so you'll need the cable I linked above.
