My current solution is:
Whenever I want to download directly to my phone, I pop the microSD out of the adapter in the car and into the SD card adapter. I then plug it into the Lightning port on my phone. Everything appears in the photos app.
This is the same method I use for my drone. It’s speedy, simple and reliable.
I would just use a USB cable; I do that from time to time to clear up some space. It's quick enough for me. Are you rooted? If the phone bugs out, then booting into recovery and mounting from there might make things easier.
Or, you could get something like this and not even bother with your phone bugging out.
dont forget the micro sd card reader, so you can put stuff on your comptuer on your tablet
