I too miss the old wired Logitech Trackball mice.

I use a Sanwa Supply clone, it's pretty close to the old Logitechs - http://amzn.com/B0042UINC6

GLAD YOU ASKED

In January 2016 I got a SANWA SUPPLY PC Trackball Mouse USB MA-TB39 Black, but the action on the ball wasn't very smooth and the whole thing was awkward in my hand.

In January 2017 I got an Elecom EX-G, popped in the ball from an M570, and I haven't looked back. I think the mixed reviews on this one are due to quality control issues, and I guess I lucked out. My only complaint is that holding down the right mouse button binds the scroll wheel, so it can get difficult to switch/use throwables in Far Cry games for example.

Having not owned an Elecom trackball myself, I can't help you with specific troubleshooting. However, here's a few other options:

Firstly, I'd like to remind you that Elecom sells wired versions of all of its trackballs. I'm assuming that you bought your trackball from Amazon. You shouldn't need to pay shipping on returning your wireless Elecom because it's broken. You could return the wireless version and order the wired one. I don't know if the wired version will fix your problems, but it's worth a shot if you want Elecom's thumbball specifically.

Also, Sanwa offers a thumb trackball which has the model number MA-TB39. Amazon link.

Someone also mentioned in a recent thread that they had found a relatively-unknown (at least around this sub) thumb trackball from Perixx. Amazon link.

Best wishes with your trackball.

I actually use a trackball mouse + gel mousepad, so my wrist doesn't move at all: it takes a while to get used to it, but after 3 months or so I could game in FPS's just like I could with a normal mouse.

This is the trackball mouse I used to use , however the right button stopped working after 5 years and they are out of production, and the only new trackball mice Logitech makes are wireless (which I am not a fan of) or this Marble mouse , which I found just terrible awkward for gaming. So now I have the Sanwa Trackball . I had to tweak the windows mouse settings to lower the cursor speed to about 60%, it's really, really fast by default.

edit: also, I really hope to one day became a great sc2 player only for the lols that when twitch fans will ask me 'what keyboard and mouse do you use' I can reply with 'Microsoft Ergonomic 4000 and Japanese Trackball'.

I had a wireless version of that elecom trackball that I got from amazon japan about a month after it was released back in 2014-15? It broke down about a year later, it also seemed to have trouble with the receiver.

I switched to the finger version of the trackball, and went with a wired this time. It's my favourite trackball right now, but it does take some getting used to if you have large hands because it's rather small compared to other trackballs. One thing to note is that I think they've updated the elecom trackball the one linked shows the model M-XT1URBK, but a search on amazon japan shows M-XT3URBK. One more thing is I believe the m570 balls will fit in either of the elecoms, I believe there were a few complaints about the stock balls not rolling nicely.

I too have given up on logitech a long time ago and went with kensington, and got a slimblade and an orbit. They both work well, but the slimblade is pricey, and the orbit lacking in buttons.

Now I've switched to buying japanese trackballs, like sanwa and elecom from amazon japan, I currently use these trackballs.
