It's a Schaller guitar strap lock. It prevents the strap from slipping off the button on the guitar and having your guitar crash to the floor.

Feels totally safe, never worried of dropping my guitar, and the material that it's made of means that it grips really well to whatever you're wearing so the guitar neck never slides from the angle you put it at! It's also never slipped in size since I've had it!

These are the ones I've had best luck with. Dunlops straplocks are also good but I never liked the push to release instead of Schallers Pull to release.
