No offense, but how broke are you?

Schaller strap locks are only $15 with shipping

Looks like the end of a straplock for a guitar strap. Missing the nut though.

These go on my acoustic. https://www.amazon.com/Guitar-Savers-Premium-Strap-Locks/dp/B01FV42D2W

Best of luck OP, I'd feel sick if I broke my cheap acoustic for sentimental reasons alone.

I really like the Levy's suede straps I'm using with the Dunlop strap locks. I have a dark brown one for my C-1 classic and a black for my Frankenseven. They take a bit to break in but are really comfortable for long sessions and look great!

Why not spend $4 and get something that has been holding up my 9.2lbs Les Paul for the last year. These are solid

I have these on every guitar, which makes every strap universally interchangeable with every guitar.

I have used Dunlop StrapLoks for literally over 1,000, 4 hour gigs, with no problems ever. And I'm no shoe gazer. Lots of jumping off stages.

When I got a new custom guitar, I emailed Dunlop about getting matching locks for the guitars finish. They just mailed them to me, no charge, no questions asked.

u/samuraialien · 7 pointsr/Guitar

Any is fine. It's just preference. I use this on most of my guitars.

How are you a guitarist with a gig in a few months but don't have a strap?

u/LiftsEatsSleeps · 6 pointsr/Guitar

I understand this works for some people but I like to remove my straps quite often. $10 for strap locks isn't much money. Hell, if you buy a decent guitar be it from a store or 2nd hand most of the time they either have them on it (2nd hand) or you can make the shop toss them in for free.

I just buy these: http://www.amazon.com/Fender-099-0690-000-Straplock-W-Button/dp/B002AQNGIU and make sure they are tight at every string change.

u/sarpentongue · 6 pointsr/whatisthisthing

It's a Schaller guitar strap lock. It prevents the strap from slipping off the button on the guitar and having your guitar crash to the floor.

Here's a link showing the complete strap lock.

u/churchofpain · 4 pointsr/guitars

Like everyone else has said, strings and picks. I also swear by rubber strap locks, they're cheap and useful.

Guitar center, sweetwater, amazon, etc all sell strap adapters that hook around the headstock right above the nut. Something like this. No need to drill another button or tie the strap up with a shoelace.

u/_o7 · 3 pointsr/Guitar

The Best 5.50 I've ever spent

Had something similar happen at my desk, headstock almost went into the screen of my laptop. Bought those and never had an issue since.

  1. find a sturdy flat rubber washer that’s inner diameter is JUST enough to stretch over your strap button. The red ones from a Grolsch swing type bottle can work. Or, really any washer whose inner diameter is smaller than the outer button flange that you can install on top of the strap, unscrewing the button if needed. Even a plastic bread clip can work in a pinch, but a sturdy plastic clip like the Dunlop Ergo Lok or StewMac Lokstrap is a more sturdy no-mod solution.

  2. You could get a reverb pedal like the TC Electronics Hall of Fame, but you need to be aware of the mic/line level difference, phantom power, and adapting to/from XLR to 1/4”. Edit:links.
u/punadit · 3 pointsr/Guitar

Schallers shouldn't be too expensive. Get the Fender branded ones for roughly 10 bucks: http://www.amazon.com/Fender-099-0690-000-Straplock-W-Button/dp/B002AQNGIU

Buttons cost like a buck or two each. I wouldn't resort to 4 USD so-so solution when a durable one doesn't cost that much.

u/proudgary · 3 pointsr/Guitar

You're right, the instrument does not factor in as much as one's interest. Totally right.

Of the packages listed, the first Yamaha one for $159 looks very nice. You'd definitely get more than your money out of it. Yamaha has a great rep. for longevity.

I own this Rogue for $79 and love it to death. I taught Grade 6 and students were allowed to play whenever they wanted - it never got any rest from students or teachers.
I'd get this Snark tuner, this guitar strap, these strings, this string winder, and finally this stand. Oh, and these thin picks.

That gives you a grand total of $119.24. I've either owned or used all of these products and can vouch for them.

Now, the other thing I'm thinking of... there's this instructional book on Google Books, where you get the first 64 pages for free. It's a great resource, but the name escapes me. If I think of it, I'll write back. I hope this helps.

I looked in my gig bag for inspiration - it turns out that I just have way too much shit in there, most of which is under £15. Cheaper DIY options offered where applicable:

  • The snark SN2 clip-on tuner. Absolute must-have.
  • A decent multi-tool
  • Allan Key Set if the multi-tool doesn't have the right sizes (metric is normal unless you play something made across the pond, but in case you need imperial, and have lots of space in your gig bag)
  • Dunlop strap locks are a solid addition to any bassist's set-up
  • Some fret-fast (I'm too lazy and disorganised to get new strings very often - you could just sub a rag and white mineral oil, but this is a convenient little package)
  • A couple of spare 9V batteries for your bass, or your (more likely your guitarist's) pedals
  • A fold-away bass stand that you can take to practices, comes in just over budget, but is a good addition and folds up to about the size of a tube of Pringles
  • Some cheap bric-a-brac like electrical tape, gaffer tape, write-on-anything pens - all good additions
  • A decent set of ear-plugs to protect your hearing
  • Foldaway music stand if you ever play with sheet music; alternatively, if you have a car or are near public transport then this guy might be more bang for your buck; light in case you have one and play in dark venues sometimes and bag in case, like me, you're always leaving the house on gig-day carrying too much
  • Patch cables if you use several stomp-boxes or rack units
  • Cable ties to stop your cables getting mangled (can always use zip-ties instead - less neat but much cheaper)
  • A cheap soldering iron is not essential, but it will be good to have one for that odd occasion where you need it - I've actually been in situations where I've saved some poor soul's night (occasionally mine) by having one of these on my person
  • Owning a padded guitar strap has saved me much back pain over the years.
  • A decent torch for last-minute backstage repairs and adjustments, lighting your pedalboard, etc

Conspicuous consumerism at its finest, ladies and gents.
u/modal11 · 3 pointsr/funny

Or the Dunlops. Personal preference - either way, they are cheap.

u/justheretohelpyou_ · 2 pointsr/guitars

Yes - just like the rubber rings. Here is an example of what I’m talking about. I’ve had the various locking systems and this is what I’ve ended up liking the best.

u/Hhwwhat · 2 pointsr/funny

I was initially looking for these. They go on your guitar strap and lock to your guitar so it can't come off.

u/MrRabuf · 2 pointsr/Guitar

I started using Dunlop strap locks recently and am happy with them so far. After using these things, I never want to go back.

u/Evid3nce · 2 pointsr/Guitar

I use 3$ ones, and they're fine. Depends if you want functional and cheap versus pretty.

https://www.amazon.com/DAddario-Accessories-Guitar-Strap-PW-DLC-01/dp/B073WNCLLF

Most music shops have some version of these alongside the plectrums and other accessories.

u/TheTaterMeister · 2 pointsr/Guitar

Dunlop straplocks are usually less than $20 for a full set, and places like Amazon have just the strap buttons for well under $10.

u/NiceGunMrBurton · 2 pointsr/Bass

little rubber grommet things I found on amazon. Used to use schaller but so far these little rubber things work great.

u/Badass_Cactus · 2 pointsr/musicians

Sorry, dude. Forget strap locks though. Just get some cheap rubber washer things like this:

I actually got mine at Home Depot for about $.30 each. They've always kept my strap very secure.

I've been using the same $5.00 Ernie Ball nylon strap every day for last 15 years. For ten of those years it was on a very heavy bass guitar. It's a bit worn, but I've never had a problem with it, and it shows no signs of failing anytime soon. Assuming they haven't changed their manufacturing since then, I'd advise OP to check it out.

u/inkandpavement · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

aw man, my house is pretty much empty right now...

I guess....dried lentils, a potato, and a small packet of wasabi peas.

this guitar strap is cheap, but I probably have cheaper. I had no time to look! I'm stuffing my face with uncooked lentils and a cracker I found under the stove!!!!!

I use Schaller strap locks on all of my guitars.

u/Blindrim · 1 pointr/Guitar

DiMarzio ClipLocks
Schaller StrapLocks

These are the ones I've had best luck with. Dunlops straplocks are also good but I never liked the push to release instead of Schallers Pull to release.
And hey, now you have a story and a personal guitar. They ain't fo real until their first ding :)

u/ElectricNoodle · 1 pointr/Guitar

I use one of these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00EHJLQIU/ref=pe_385721_51767431_TE_dp_2

with some of these!

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000960KNW/ref=pe_385721_51767431_TE_dp_1

Feels totally safe, never worried of dropping my guitar, and the material that it's made of means that it grips really well to whatever you're wearing so the guitar neck never slides from the angle you put it at! It's also never slipped in size since I've had it!

u/limnusJosh · 1 pointr/guitars

Personally, my standard of guitar strap is to choose a strap with no less than this level of padding/cushion

as opposed to something like this where they tend to dig into your neck and grow super uncomfortable.

It looks like you might need an acoustic/headstock strap for the Yamaha AC3R because from pictures I have seen, it doesn't have a second strap holder.

u/SirCarrington · 1 pointr/Bass

I prefer the Schaller style strap locks but lately I've been buying the cheap knockoffs and haven't had any issues. They're still compatible with their Schaller counterparts.

u/mrkrinkledude · 1 pointr/Bass

Sounds like you definitely need strap locks. If price is a factor, you can always buy Guitar Savers Premium Strap Locks. I bought these the other day and feel they work great so far.

I also bought a Neotech strap off of Amazon with this order and I love it so far.

u/dmmarck · 1 pointr/Bass

Have no fear! I've ordered/used these.

u/madshm3411 · 1 pointr/Guitar

I personally use these very basic rubber washers from Amazon and I've never dropped my guitar

u/drgolovacroxby · 1 pointr/Guitar

A glaring omission is the Loxx system: https://www.amazon.com/LOXX-13605-System-Electric-Guitar/dp/B005OEBWHC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1482875594&sr=8-1&keywords=loxx+strap+locks

If you have a guitar where the strap affixes on the back of the guitar, these are by far the best. You can't accidentally push them out like you can with the Dunlops, and they don't stab you in the stomach like the Schallers, while still being super secure.

>What did you search for to look up the guitar strap holder bolt things?

locking guitar strap pegs

>Any plans to make a new one with the Pi4?

I might just upgrade my Rev.3 with a new Pi. That's one nice thing about using Pi's, you can easily drop in a new pi and upgrade all of the core systems.

>Why did you decide to go with a USB battery pack

Because I didn't feel like designing a charging/bypass circuit and a battery box. I tend to use off the shelf solutions whenever possible because I'm lazy.

>Do you know how much power your keyboard draws?

I haven't run the numbers, but the draw from the LEDs in the keyboard should be negligible compared to the screen. Also, I'm not great at touch typing and one of my design requirements was the ability to operate in the dark.

u/bnolsen · 1 pointr/Bass

having played around with some strap locks little rings are maybe the best way to go. No messing around with the bass itself:

This amazon link says both 68 and 72 inches.

I've got one. I'm 6"4' and play my guitar impractically low down, and I still have plenty of leeway on this strap. It's the only one I've ever found that goes to the length I like.

u/cheekygeek · 1 pointr/Guitar

I just got a Planet Lock Strap by D'Addario with . My guitar was purchased used (a 20th Anniversary Seagull, maple & spruce). It has a bottom strap button (with 1/4" jack for interior pickup that the previous owner had installed) and I got these to put in the upper end. My newbie question is: Where exactly should I install the upper button, given the Planet Lock strap that I have purchased. They don't have flexible ends, but the guitar side feels like a slightly softer material.
