Yeah of course you can get something better,
like these headphones
and pair them with this DAC and amp
also, to use those, you have to buy this pretty much. http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HDVD-800-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B00BHBWWFW/ref=pd_sim_e_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=0X2CKMHGWC0Y6TRV8CK5
For unamped I really like my Sennheiser HD280 Pro (http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-280-Pro-Headphones/dp/B000065BPB/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420313791&sr=8-1&keywords=sennheiser+hd280+pro=
I'm a big fan of anything Sennheiser and don't think you can go wrong with them.
I have two amped setups I run (both are way out of your budget though):
Tubed:
Woo Audio now makes the WA7 which is an amp and DAC in one, if it was available when I bought my setup I probably would have gotten that instead (http://wooaudio.com/products/wa7fireflies.html)
Solid State:
Personally I prefer the warmer sound of the tubed setup.
Hey, I'm thinking of purchasing an HD800S but I'm unsure what kind of DAC/AMP setup I should pair them with. I was thinking of the Sennheiser HDVD 800 Headphone Amplifier with DAC but my friend advised against it. So, can someone please help me out here? Thanks.
