Gotcha. On that link the complaints are about steam, but on the original without Gold they rip the game apart.
The Amazon rating for vanilla Civ V still hasn't recovered: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B004774IPU/
Looking at the top-rated reviews on that page, I don't think Beyond Earth has much to worry about.
Can't imagine this will be seen by now, but Civilization 5 is on for $16.98. This is the cheapest I have ever seen it sold.
It's cheaper via Amazon if you're in the US @$16.98

I have questions though:
I skipped over the Civ V launch, but judging from things I've read (comparisons by people who did both + just seeing the comments/reviews of both games at launch), BE's launch was a silken smooth baby compared to V's.
There's still a not-trivial number of people who think V is vastly inferior to IV, so you can imagine how much love V got back when it was brand new, unpatched, with no DLC or expansions, and it was the very first game to force of the franchise to force people onto Steam.
In fact, the base game currently has 527 one-star reviews on Amazon, with an average rating of only 2.5/5 -- which is in the "this package contained a live scorpion that stung me when I opened it, would not recommend" category as far as Amazon reviews go.
You can also read "reviews" like this which explain why, at the time, people thought it was a steaming pile of shit that could never, ever be fixed. Heck, I've seen that last link cited as a serious argument even within the past few months.
The franchise has an amazing fanbase and community, but man, we do not like new games until they've had time to mature/cook.
$19.95 on Amazon.
Here are a bunch of wallpapers. I think i might even use a few.
I don't really have a favorite game but ive really been enjoying Civ 5 lately.
Thanks for the contest!
EDIT:I have Mirrors Edge
EDIT2: this bundle is amazing! i'm buying it for myself haha
Civilisation V is $15 on Amazon and and activates on Steam.
Edit: Link
Vanilla is currently on sale at Amazon for 11.
Since the link has a list of all the games on the sale, here are the individual Civ games:
Civ5 is a very excellent game.
I'd say that Civ 5 + Brave New World pushes it to the best of the series, however the base game alone is largely flawed in comparison to 4, but still good.
However... iTunes is a rip off. Steam has the game for sale at $30, but regularlly puts it on sale for $5-$10 http://store.steampowered.com/app/8930/
Amazon also frequently sells it for cheap, though if you're on Mac, be careful to search for the correct version:

Civ 5 is my new main game for the forseeable future. It's so deep and some of the stuff that goes on in there is so funny.
For my game, I'd like this. It's more strategy, but combined with FPS. It's a very cool combination.
Personally I'd just get it whichever way is cheapest in the long run. If there's a nice save on the bundle (like the Gold edition which has G&K) I'd get that and worry about BNW later. The Gold edition includes a bunch of previously released Civilizations, which really freshen up the game.
As complete beginner to the whole series, I had a blast with just the vanilla game at start. That being said, the two expansions really tweak an already good game into perfection. I wouldn't be able to switch back to vanilla after playing with them both.
EDIT: For example the base game is 20 dollars on amazon right now. You can wait for a sale on Steam for the Gold edition upgrade, which will be around 2-5 dollars, and get BNW when it's on sale etc.
All sexified for you:

Deals for 7/26- 7/30:
Some additional info:
Here is a link for just Civ V, on sale on Amazon right now, if you don't want the whole strategy pack, though the pack is only 5 bucks more.
It is completely worth it. It's amazing as always.
This is true. I didn't think of it like this. Well, what do you think. Should I buy it from Amazon or should I wait until the Steam Sale
I think this is the link you wanted
Well I can't find a discount code for that game but I found another turn based game she may like?

Looks like it's the same price (ok, a whopping penny cheaper) at Amazon. Since you have to register it on Steam either way it doesn't make much of a difference but I suppose it's useful if you don't have an account at Gamersgate.
actually cheaper on amazon.

10.19.
