I also considered the jacket/pants combo, but on most posts I read the riders complained they got just as wet from sweating as if they didn't wear rain gear. I think they're ok for motorcycle riding because, for the most part, there is much less physical activity and therefore not as much sweating.
Living here in China, 99% of the people who ride bikes and scooters use mostly ponchos or rain capes. I'll give it a try and see how it works out.
Snugpak do a good one, big enough to cover a pack as well.
