It's totally normal, and you kinda gave the answer yourself! I started skating again after about 18 years and my muscles had no damn clue what they were doing. But sticking to it your muscles begin to learn and get stronger, and in turn you begging to get more control. I'm 37 and 220 and took a nasty fall about a month ago, but it gets better.

I could give you 2 advices:

  • TECHNIQUE. Learn from someone who really knows. YouTube videos, online courses or even better, in person lessons. A small change in technique can vastly improve your skating.
  • PROTECTION. As others have said, get a full set of pads and helmet. Not only will the falls hurt less, but you'll be more confident and learn faster. But additionally, you can get a pair of padded protection shorts, because sometimes your worst falls are on your butt.
