Below $1000, I would get the AX33. It has 4 times the resolution of the HF G20 - and costs less.

Hi,
I highly recommend the Vixia HF R800 if you are just getting into using an actual camera over a webcam.
If you want to go for something a lot better, and also more expensive, check out the Sony AX33
Both cameras feature "Clean HDMI out" meaning you can turn off all the OSD(On screen display features like recording time, date, etc).

Ended up picking one up for our dual capture card setups at events. Quality is really nice, and if 4K is a big deal to you, this shoots 4k30 as well as 1080p60. I would say the only drawback of this is that the HDMI out is an interlaced signal, so 60i not 60p, which can be temperamental with capture cards, like sometimes it only wants to show up as 30fps because of the interlacing. But it always works and the actual image quality always looks fantastic.
