That would depend on your setup. If you're using one of those Wal-Mart, it's going to sound like crap. You need a good record player, I recommend what I have, the Stanton T.92, I don't use it for the DJ feature, but for the USB vinyl ripping feature. Then you'll need a good receiver and great speakers.

How familiar are you with USB turntables? I've been lusting over http://www.amazon.com/Stanton-T92USB-Direct-Drive-Turntable/dp/B00292BREU for the last 2 years but from what I've read here and there is that the WAV/MP3s created are pretty much the same regardless of what deck you're using and to perhaps consider picking up a USB pre-amp instead. That's pretty much the only reason I even settled for the ION table.

So, seeing how I don't have access to that ION deck anymore, IF I decide to deep clean or replace one of the LPs, do you think it would make a significant difference to buy a used Stanton T92 or are used turntables not worth the risk?

A few more:

  • Numark TT200
  • Stanton T62
  • Stanton T92

And in the what not to buy:
Sony turntables (even if the 350 looks good as a 1200 clone, it's a lemon), ION turntables, Pioneer PL-990
