Yea, its not like they make Displayport to HDMI cables or adapters or anything like that.

It has 3 x Display Ports which are backward compatible to HDMI. Just buy one converter and you're set.

1. With your space requirements, just use a standard 2.5" SSD. Usually cheaper than the msata option and I believe the T420 has SATA III in the main 2.5" slot (whereas the msata would be SATA II only).
   
2. Yep, 7mm drive height. Some SSDs have spacers that can be removed to reduce height to 7mm.
   
3. Id get a Lenovo ultrabay adapter and stick the HDD in there. DVD drive is pretty much worthless to me.
   
4. For HDMI, you can get a displayport adapter like this one
   
5. I use the power manager and software update. Nothing else.
   
6. Burn recovery image onto a set of DVDs, test them!, and then do a clean install windows 7 on your machine when you upgrade to the SSD. Configure your machine just the way you like it, then save a system image. That way, you can instantly revert to a base image in under 20 min anytime you feel like wiping your SSD and starting from scratch (works wonders for me as during a school year, I may be testing upwards of 10+ different trial programs).

There are devices to extract the sound from HDMI and the continue then video signal. You could get that, and then a simple HDMI to DP adapter. I mean, it's a lot of connections, but you can then do what you want to do!

I can't guarantee you that it will work for you, but this is the exact item we use at work (I'm in IT) on our computers' DisplayPort connection to connect to HDMI monitors. I would imagine it would work from your HDMI out card to the DisplayPort connection on the monitor.

I would say get a GTX 980 as they come with only 1 HDMI but 3 Display ports, which can be converted well using something like this http://www.amazon.com/Startech-DP2HDMI-DisplayPort-Adapter-Converter/dp/B0017K6BDW and the card will do the best driving it.

They both connect through 15 pin VGA. The MacBook uses the included Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter. The Dell does have a DisplayPort but I'd have to buy a $15.45 adapter to hook it up to my Vizio TV.

I can change the resolutions to several different things, it's just that 1024x768 is the best available.

To be fair, they can both push my newer Samsung TV at 1920x1080, using the same cable/connection.

If you are having to unplug your monitor to play with the vive, you need to go get a displayport to hdmi dongle to connect your monitor from hdmi to display port, then you can plug your vive in simultaneously into the open hdmi port. Something along these lines. Notice though that this is only for up to 1080p--this is for your monitor, if you need higher res, get the 4k HDMI to display port.

That was difficult.

DP-to-HDMI adapter plugged into the video card.
HDMI cable plugged into adapter DP and to the Vive box.

Edit: Now that I think about it, I may have flipped which device was using the adapter after I got the new card. I need to double-check the connections when I get home today and let you know for sure.

Take a look at the Nvidia Quadro NVS line. Specifically the NVS 510 and NVS 450.

One of those cards plus 4 DisplayPort to HDMI adaptors should do what you're asking.

Edit: Both cards draw a maximum of 35 watts. And the NVS 450 is even fanless, but full-height only.

Can't you use those display ports? Something like this should do the trick.
