Considering you are getting two very small high quality bluetooth controllers with rumble and motion controls, it really isn't that bad. Try to find something similar for less. There aren't many small high quality wireless controllers. Here are a couple...both $50 a piece and without rumble or motion controls.

$200 will buy you all of my favorite gadgetry.

Anker 6000mah Portable battery ~$40~ http://amzn.com/B00CEZJT2E
If you have an Android tablet, get a Chromecast ~$35~ http://amzn.com/B00DR0PDNE
If you have an Android tablet and are seriously considering the Chromecast, get a SteelSeries Free Bluetooth Dual Analog Controller ~$55~ http://amzn.com/B009AOFNU4

Get yourself these things, promptly download any emulators from the play store (Mupen64, PPSSPP, and Dolphin Emu are all contenders) and then use that bluetooth controller on that Android tablet running emulator [ChildhoodConsoleX] to play [Nostalgia] over your Chromecast using the cast screen feature that went fully live recently. I'm telling you, every console that came out before the Nintendo DS (so think pre-2004) has an emulator that can be cast, and it's sweet.

Ninja Edit: the battery will keep the tablet and controller charged on the go, and is useful in general. I have one, I never leave home without it.

Edit 2: this won't work with a computer. Cast screen is exclusive to Android tablets (I think). This is a good system because it's the kind of thing you can take with you everywhere. Think of it like a portable console that can be played on a party bench or on your flat screen at home.

Edit 3: I thought* Turns out with chrome open you can mirror your desktop no problem, though it may be a little laggy. Have fun with that people!

I just installed Half-Life 1 on my phone with the Xash3D VR app (search the posts in this subreddit for help). Required a root, but so far it works well with my SteelSeries Free controller.

Apparently QVR (Quake) is pretty good too.

Here's a forgotten favorite of mine: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/teamimpulse/impulse-game-controller-and-key-finder-pocket-acce

it's been replaced and outclassed by the 8bitdo zero which is cheaper, smaller, and has more buttons.

Here's another little guy that will always have a place in my heart https://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-Wireless-Controller-Bluetooth-Samsung/dp/B009AOFNU4 it's the smallest controller I know of that is truly comfortable.

Bought the SteelSeries Free for $20 about a week ago. Gouging over $30 is nuts!
It's a greeat little controller though:

I was looking for the same thing. I couldn't find anything great. The only one I considered was the SteelSeries one, but it's pretty expensive. Edit: It looks like this Nyko one gets good reviews and has decent reviews.

I went the Xbox 360 route but only so that I could do multiplayer on it, and because of potential controller lag (I hook mine up to the TV). Consider it if you want to eventually do that.

There is a USB adapter on Amazon that gives you two ports. Another thing that could free up the USB port is a 64gb SD card. That's were I currently put my Steam games.

I was going to recommend this

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009AOFNU4/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=

But i have no idea why its so expensive, I ordered mine in December. It may be discontinued now?

I got one of these and am pretty happy with it. It's small enough to fit in the GearVR pouch.

u/JaggedOne · 1 pointr/AndroidQuestions

Haven't used it myself, but a few months back I asked a similar question, and several people recommended this.

Steel Series Zeemote

I bought one of these years ago and I love it. It's a bit on the small side, but I wanted something I could chuck in my pocket

EDIT: I just noticed the price on Amazon... Yikes.. I paid $50cdn for mine at EB Games.

u/massiveTimeWaster · 1 pointr/chromeos

The biggest two I can think of are the Moga Pro Power and the Moga Hero Power. Both of them connect... sometimes... in HID but their mappings are all over the place.

I was even more surprised that my ubuntu chroot had problems with them so there must be something fundamentally weird going on with the connection. The passthrough works since retroarch recognizes them, but none of the buttons register.

I also own a Steelseries Free and its support in ChromeOS isn't so hot either, although ubuntu recognizes it like a champ, analogs and all.

EDIT
I forgot that I also tried my Logitech Gamepad F310 and neither Chrome nor ubuntu recognized it.

Bro, I've got WORDS!

So I started off with the steel series "free mobile wireless gaming controller" (good fucking luck googling it, here it is:) https://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-Wireless-Controller-Bluetooth-Samsung/dp/B009AOFNU4

Which was the most amazing small perfect size, but! It only has r1 l1, no r2 l2 so no SNES gaming. bummer. Plus, the mappings would always be fucky - IIRC it uses Dinput, not the newer Xinput that xbox 360 controllers use, so games and emulators wouldn't know wtf. Worked a treat with my android phone though. By the way, they're super hard to buy now, because steelseries seems to have discontinued them, and also released a nearly identical one that ONLY works with iphone. Nightmare.

So on to 8bitdo: http://www.8bitdo.com/

By far their most versatile controller is the n30 pro: http://www.8bitdo.com/n30pro-f30pro/

It has r1 r2 l1 l2, analog l r, and click for both analog l r. It is literally an xbox 360 controller, in a flatter more portable package. Feels great. Big, though. Great firmware on it, bluetooths well. The "f" version is garbage though, something's wrong with its bluetooth and I always have issues with it. Weirdly, looks like you can only buy these on amazon right now. No idea what's going on with their site.

They also recently came out with their "zero mini" https://www.amazon.com/Gamepad-Bluetooth-Wireless-Controller-function/dp/B01FJQC4WG/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1538792029&sr=1-3&keywords=8bitdo+zero+2 which is COMICALLY small, but no analog, no r2 l2, pretty much only good for like gameboy, GBA, and NES emulation. I guess SEGA genesis as well.

So, your best bet for "one size fits all" for now is their n30 line, until someone comes out with someone smaller. It's just an xbox360 controller, straight up.

EDIT: Looks liek there's a BUNCH of n30s now, I have the "n30 pro v1" so I can't comment on the new pro 2s.

Does anyone have experience with the SteelSeries Free?

http://smile.amazon.com/SteelSeries-Wireless-Controller-Bluetooth-Tablets/dp/B009AOFNU4

I really like the fact that it's tiny and will fit in my bag easily. I took my 360 controller on a trip a while ago and it was a pain because it was so big and bulky compared to the rest of my kit.

Or does anyone have experience with the Nyko Playpad?

http://smile.amazon.com/Playpad-Android-Bluetooth-PC-Mac-Linux/dp/B0092ZEIN4

I can't find much information about it. Apparently it's a bit garbage on android, but I can't find anything about using it on windows. The price is certainly right.
