Here is some random stuff:

Always get the lock code or have them remove it before they drop a device off. You can not properly test a locked device.

Dont skimp and buy cheap parts. Buy from reputable wholesalers who warranty the parts. Your customers and your reputation will thank you.

Anytime you need to order a part, order 2 or 3 or 4 but not one! Parts can be DOA, break during install or have a problem as soon as the customer walks out the door. Being ready to address that problem and not having to wait a week for a new part to show up can be HUGE! When I first started out I broke an iPhone 5 LCD during the install because the corner of the phone was bent. I had no backup in stock. I looked like a chump, and it was an emergency for her. I had to drive 40 miles and buy a screen from another repair shop for full retail cost... like $80 for what usually costs me 32. Lost my ass on that repair.

Order parts on Tuesdays or Wednesdays so they arrive in time for weekend rush. If you get hit hard during the week you still have time to get a fedex and make it through the weekend. Plan ahead.

Parts parts parts...keeping stuff in stock is huge. Especially for Iphones. If you cant fix it today, someone in your area probably can. Customers will come to you for 2 main reasons until you get a good reputation. 1. Price 2. Convenience. It will take a while until you can build a reputation that allows you to charge more money and keep phones for a few days while part orders come in. This sucks , especially for samsung phones because their LCD assemblies are so damn expensive. There is a constant battle between expanding stock, expanding customer base and your pocketbook.

Training programs...if you have no equipment or resources to practice repairs think about attending one. The training program will probably be out of date and none of them are perfect. Your best bet would be to forgo training and donate some time as an apprentice to a local shop. Failing that the training can be a good place to start. Don't buy the training tool kits. They are shit. You can buy more, better quality stuff on ebay and amazon.

Get a pallet knife for removing batteries. http://www.amazon.com/Darice-5-Piece-Painting-Knife-Set/dp/B004669XQ6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420699195&sr=8-1&keywords=pallet+knife They will change your life.

Hot air is your friend. Get a heatgun with a digital readout. Set it to 200 or 250. Heat up anything with adhesive before you attempt to remove it. When you put new adhesive down, heat it up and apply some pressure to lock it down, let it cool and then continue. This will save you alot of torn cables, broken bits and cussing.

Some customers will always try to pull one over on you. Document everything! Make them sign a release and work authorization. Get in the habit of doing a routine check on the phone in the presence of the customer. Make a phone call using their phone, pull up pictures, go to a website, put the phone on speaker mode etc. Open it and check for water damage. Do this religiously.

Customers treat me like im the fucking Verizon rep or something. It sucks. Some of them can be hard to convince that I dont care if they dropped the phone in water, or from the bleachers at a football game. None of my work is covered under warranty. The more honest the customer is about what they do / did to the phone the easier it is for me to diagnose whats wrong with it. I had one today tell me their 5s was brand new, just a month old they have no idea why its not working. It had an aftermarket screen and lightning port, battery was not oem, all water damage indicators were triggered, it was full of rust and soda (coke). Like wtf...

Other repair shops. If you are lucky there will be some good ones. In my area alot of them overcharge and under deliver. They buy crap parts, leave parts out etc. It makes our job so much harder. I wish everyone took some pride in their work and did a solid job. Drop a screw...replace it. Short on time...tell the customer it will be a few more minutes don't leave a flex cover off. It makes all of us look bad.

Accessories. Most of them totally suck. Getting dealer pricing on the good stuff is not easy so you usually have to go through a wholesaler. If you sell cheap shit it will come back, the good stuff is expensive. Sucks really. You have to make a decision when starting with little cash. Buy parts, or buy accessories...I choose parts.

Complete lack of any governing body inspecting the grade and quality of parts that come into the market. I bet 90 percent or more of the parts we can get are counterfeit copies. We are sucked into a game of roll the dice when buying, even from the big wholesalers.

Build a privacy statement. Maintain peoples privacy at all costs. Do not go through their data or pictures. If you build trust you will gain customers.

Paint: 12 piece - $8.96

Brushes:12 piece - $7.99

Knifes: 5 piece - $6.74

[Canvas:(12) 8x10 - $11.99] (https://www.amazon.com/CANVAS-PANELS-12-PACK-Painting/dp/B01FCHZOII/ref=sr_1_4?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1503068681&sr=1-4&keywords=canvas)

Paint Thinner: 34 oz. - $13.69

Total: $49.37

All of this should last you a while. You can share with your spouse too. Maybe get two sets of brushes though. You can do it. I never have painted anything in my life because I was scared how I'd waste my time on how it would turn out. You just have to do it! Loved every painting I have done. You will never like everything detail about you art (happy little accidents) but you will be happy with the overall outcome. Plus it is so relaxing!

Heat the IHS to 120 degrees c then use this knife labeled 1 from this set (only stick it in about 0.75 cm deep to avoid scratching the die):

I had an old palette knife shaped like #5 that I like. It's got a thin flexible tip which I can jam under any lift I have naturally or made with my pocket knife.

It's wedge-shaped and gets thicker towards the back, making it perfect for prying and applying serious power once I have an edge started with the thin tip.

Maybe your tool was too thick? The trick I used was to put foils over the entire board but cut out two squares for the chips to prevent hitting the other chips around the 2 big ones.
