If it's more the muscle that's tight I found this heating pad worked well. I kept it on the underside of my leg and then stretched similar to the extensionater. (I propped my ankle up and put a small weight on my leg to pull it down, same as physio, get that ok before doing it)

Edit: forgot to say if you get the long one linked it's about the length of your leg. Good fit.

I second the sunbeam. I got one recently when I herniated a disc and it was a good move.

Edit: I actually have this one: Sunbeam Xpressheat Heating Pad, Extra Large,Burgundy https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JA9D914/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_veTMeqlLyBV5u

I've had a lot of terrible heating pads. Mostly the vinyl bunches up so the pad no longer lays flat, which is annoying. More alarmingly, the vinyl also tears, which creates jagged edges that have been known to leave red scratch marks on my skin (and occasionally draw very small amounts of blood). So I hate most heating pads.

This is the only one I've found that doesn't have that problem:

My one complaint about it is that I don't think it gets hot enough, especially if you're using it over your clothing.

Yes....the Sunbeam heating pads are great! Came here to say that. I have a king sized one, not for the neck, just a rectangle pad but I use it on my neck often by putting on my pillow when I am in bed. This heating pad actually has levels that feel hot, unlike other brands, and while it has an auto shutoff feature it also has a feature where you can make it run continuously which I love. I had tried many other brands before this and they were terrible....would shut off all the time after what seemed like a short while and they never felt warm, let alone hot. Now that I mention it I should buy another one because my spouse sometimes steals mine when she has pain from cramps and other would be good to get her one of her own and would be nice to have a backup anyway.

This is the one I have....

But they also have a couple for the neck as well...
