EDIT: The kit's now available here

Thank you guys so much for your feedback. I really appreciate it. As a thank you, when the Kickstarter gets funded, I'll ask for your Reddit username and I'll give all Redditors a free bag of extra wire clips and a few other parts to help you attach accessories.

Hey everyone, I posted this thread last week and got input from you all about what you want in your work/battle station.

Here is a summary of what everyone suggested and what I did to try to solve their problem.

For the sake of shipping and to save money if you already have a desk, I designed it to mount onto an existing model of IKEA desk that's very common, decent quality and not very expensive.

Add-ons in photos that are not part of the kits:

IKEA Galant Desk, $160

(I have the T-Leg which costs a bit more)

Desk lamp, $16

10-Outlet Surge Protector Strip, $30

LED Backlighting, $40

Complete desk setup estimated cost:

$160 basic Ikea desk

$95 Station Frame (the basic monitor-holding frame)

$85 Station Accessories (shelves, arms, etc.)

$340 total

It's also built with a totally modular system so you can add accessories later or modify any feature to the size you need.

For LED lightbars you can get them anywhere really.

I recently (yesterday) bought this.

It's a 1 meter of RGB 5050 LED, and I plan on running it with a external battery pack for some project that requires being mobile.

They have ones with AC adapters, really just google something to the extent of 5050 LED strip, RGB if you want to change colours, or just get white or whatever colour you want/need to save money. 5050 is the size of the LED, there are smaller ones as well.

If you don't trust buying from some Chinese company you can ebay it, or look at your local brick and mortar stores. I know Costco sells Sylvania Mosaic ones, and of course Amazon sells it.

Youtube video search something like sylvania mosaic review to get the general gist of what it is.

I mean the quality might not be there, but if you go thru Costco or Amazon their return policies are pretty good, and it's not $200, it's like $30.

Thanks! It’s by a brand called Sylvania. You can find them here: LED Strip Lights

Marineland makes a pretty small LED light Here is a link, you would just need to figure out a way to rig it in place in the hood. If you're not growing any plants you could get some of those stick on LED strips like these for example and place them in the hood.

I installed remote controlled LED strips. It has like 16 different colors and it can flash and stuff as well. I love them. I got them at Costco for $30 but they have them on Amazon for about $40. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008COVFUA

I've seen people use this and power it with a One Spot using this adpater.

I haven't tried it myself.

It is a pedal train! And for the lights I'm using this with a L6 converter that goes straight into my power supply.

Not OP, but if you are looking for computer lighting the HUE+ is a great option for inside you computer, and for outside the computer there any many different options. I'm using some Sylvania Mosaic, which are nice but there are plenty of different options out there.
