Thanks, that stem really is working out well for the drop bar conversion. It also has a hole for the brake cable, but if you want a barrel adjuster might want to go with one of these hangers instead (which requires a spacer to work with that stem, so I learned...)

I'm doing the same to my 90's rockhopper (Shorter stem, ditching the stock stem-brake cable connection)). I got a cable stop hanger adapter from the local bike shop. It clamps to either the stem or headset.

But note they may come in different sizes. You probably need some sort of shim with the one in the link, I'm not totally sure. The one I got doesn't have a brand name on it.
