I think its just a matter of transferring ticket sales into merchadising or books. Fisher was a bestselling author in her own right. She's had a number of NYT bestsellers- thanks bankability too. This book just came out and was doing well, it's certainly boosted by her passing but it's number #1 on Amazon and sold out its print run waiting for a reprint.
And while she herself probably didn't make money off toys or Star Wars tie-products there was huge money in the Princess Leia brand. Pretty iconic, its just a different medium.
