It can be powered with a 9v battery which, if you're buying it new, there will probably be an EHX-branded 9v inside it already. That said, replacing 9v batteries adds up quickly (as long as you have a cable plugged into the pedal's input it is draining power from the battery, even if it isn't on), so you should invest in a power adapter anyway. Something like a 1-Spot would work with any pedal requiring 9v DC center negative power (look for this symbol near the pedal's power input). You can also plug in a daisy chain to power multiple pedals off of the same adapter.

No, the Moogerfoogers are center pin positive, whereas the Minifoogers are center pin negative.

EDIT: Here is the Minifooger power supply: https://www.moogmusic.com/products/minifoogers/minifooger-power-supply

I power my Minifooger with a 9V center pin negative daisy chain power supply like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Truetone-NW1-1-Spot-Adapter/dp/B0002GZLZQ

For a pedal you'll need a pickup of some sort so you can plug in.

Pedal options I highly recommend getting a TC electronics ditto, either the single or x2 - Idiot simple and overall a great piece of equipment. I always recommend it for someone's first looper.

You can find them used for around $75 on www.reverb.com (don't forget you'll need a standard 9v wall plug, 1spot makes a great one available on amazon for $20 that you could use with other pedals too in the future)

If you're just wanting to mess around with looping yourself and not necessarily perform with it, LoopyHD is a great ios app. The only issue for you will be that you're going to need to use headphones if you don't want each new loop to have all the stuff coming from the speakers within it.

Battery is definitely the problem. Maybe it was already used with that battery for a while before you bought it. Delays are definitely more power intensive than any other pedal in the first place.

Even still, I'd say in the long run it's really better to buy a power supply for any pedal. Highly recommend the OneSpot power adapter, it's $18, just one plug, and it can power up to 20 pedals.

You can also go for the more popular Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2, but it's $170 and only has support for 8 pedals.

I had the exact problem when I first got one. I had to buy the One Spot power supply and it cleared all that up.

Most power adapters marketed for guitar pedals are regulated. I haven't seen a pedal that requires an unregulated adapter in years. the last unregulated pedal I bought was a big box EHX holy grail 14 years ago. Any power supply that says it is compatible with a boss PSA adapter will be regulated. also be careful. some of the PSU boxes have unregulated outputs to accommodate those older boss and EHX pedals. But here are some options that I know for certain are regulated and will work. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00191WVF6/ , http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0002GZLZQ/ , http://www.amazon.com/BOSS-Audio-PSA-120S-Power-Adapter/dp/B0012BPMHW

Well, considering that is $40 for just the power supply, I will most likely get one of these:

Probably the latter as it wouldn't hurt to have a new daisy chain, it's possible the contacts are loose on mine and that's causing some of the trouble anyway.
