im going to try to go the DVI route, https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00B2HORD6 would this work? it says bi-directional in the name and i'm not worried about audio.
Not exactly what you're asking, but I use one of these to connect my PC to my TV when I have friends come over and we want to play on TV instead of my monitor.
It works great, but I use the HDMI-out from my GPU for my VR Headset and use this DVI-HDMI adapter to connect the DVI-out on my GPU to the TV's HDMI-in.
I know you're asking for something different (DisplayPort rather than DVI, and using it for the headset vs the TV) but for what it's worth this works great for me and would probably work for you too if your GPU has DVI output.
